The other day, Gavin (Tarmac Terrorist) came down to Plans Motorsport to try out his car on our circuit.
As many of you know, Plans are based at the Top Gear circuit and have exclusive use (along with the BBC and Mercedes McLaren) of the track. We regularly do driver training on the circuit and have video and data logging equipment that we fit to client’s cars for their session. We also have our own leaderboard of times.
I’m posting here as Gav is too modest to that say not only was his time the second fastest ever for Plans’ customers, but beat the Stig’s time by over a second
Gav did a 1:25.6 - whereas the Stig did a 1:26.9
See the video here:
Ther car was prepared by Plans, is more or less standard apart from Plans 46mm single way ohlins, race ARB and a decent set-up
Very impressive driving. Well done Gav. Makes me depressed about racing against you in my shed. After seeing how quick you were at Oulton last year, saying you “can drive a bit” (Pesky’s words) is about the understatement of the decade.
Gav did aboput eight laps last year (out on the track in the Exige chasing me in the next door neighbour’s Ferrari 430 - that was more for a laugh)as the owner let me try out his new car…needless to say the Exige was just as quick as the 430…and had better brakes (ie you can do more than three laps)
And then did six laps this time. Normally if you do the Plans driver training you will get many more, but Gav was just doing a shake down.
I can post another clip from the next lap - but will need to ask Gav first…
Cheers for posting the clip Graham, it was great to see it when I finally got in last night (2.00am, F’ing British Rail…)
I really cannot thank the Plans lads enough for the sterling job they have done preparing the car for this years racing, it really is handling lovely.
I was at Brands all day yesterday doing a trackday as I have never been there before so thought it wise of me to at least get a few laps in of the place before I race there and try out the new ‘M’ compound rubber we will be running this year. Mmmmm… “M” compound tyres :lickslips:
So then boys, looks like I have set the bench mark…
