Battery replacement

Knowing that the big heavy battery in Shrek will now be flat, I wondered if anyone has fitted an Odessey or similar battery into the front of an S1? If so, can this easily be done?

JSR did a fantastic job fitting one of these in my S2… Sooo much lighter and I never had any issues with it going flat either. :sunglasses:

Did Boothy recommend it to you?

No, he was pretty ‘negative’

Yes Pete
John can supply you a cage that bolts in the front compartment and takes a size 25 and it all fits perfect,

I’ve got an Odyssey PC680 in mine, a little under half the weight of the stock battery. I made a custom bracket for mine that picks up on the OEM points, holds it in extremely firmly and lies the battery down on its side to keep the weight as low as possible.

Here’s the bracket:

And here’s the batery clamp in situ with the battery (bracket anodised black).

In rhe above picture, my battery shutoff switch is just hanging loose, it’s now mounted correctly, and to lie the battery down like that you have to split the loom wrapping just a little and re-wrap it so that the cables will reach to the terminals in their new position… but IMHO it’s the best way to mount it. I’ve got a charging harness so that I don’t need to get to the terminals other than for battery replacement.

As usual, very cool George!

Was that done before the clam went back on, or can you do the replacement in situ? I have the added complication of the double A/C radiators!!!

No clam removal needed, it’s far easier to replace than the stock battery. The only tricky bit is getting the cables connected but you can do that with the battery standing up then gently laying it down taking care not to arc them against the chassis. Then once keying in position you can fit the cradle over, which then gets fastened into place using the washer bottle bracket as per the OEM solution.

It’s probably overkill, but it’s the tidiest way I could think to do it and it works well with the battery shutoff too… I should take a picture of it all completed. It also helps I do sheetmetal design and manufacturing for a living and could whip one up in a couple of lunch breaks

Cool!!!

PM on the way mate!!!
