Banging, Grinding & Clonking!

Well Spa took its toll on the Exige  bang at Pouhon, grinding at Les Fagnes and pit lane clonking;

John (JSR) has confirmed that the noise is from the box so my dilemma is do I stay with the UCR or go with a normal CR box any suggestions? Having only driven mine what are the real life differences between the two?

I would deffo stick with your UCR box matey, the closer the ratios the more lively the car is going to feel. I think if you down graded to a longer ratio box, you wouldn’t enjoy your car so much on track.

Oh eck - sorry to hear about this mate :frowning:

TBH I always found the std cr box ratios great, but I suppose your problem will be finding a replacement in the next week or so? Hopefully, JSR will have the answer/solution

UCR is definitely a performance boost, especially if you’ve got use to cruising on the road with it or trailer the car. Sean use to come out of bends like a scalded cat!

Got the Quaife ratios on mine-definitely good including the noise!

Right staying with the UCR - mission impossible accepted by John

Box off and a confirmation that there is also a lightened flywheel already fitted

Cheers for the advice guys

Gearbox left today, after courier saying they couldn’t take a wooden box after taking payment

Apparently same size and weight in a cardboard box would have been OK???

Anyone work for a courier company that can sort me out a deal?

Nice one John - hope it’s not gone here, which is owned by Toyota

Top effort John & Wayne - many thanks

Is this sorted John - if not, where is the 'box?

The box is on its way to gearbox dude.

Was thinking more long term as the courier company that used to be really good, is now really rubbish!!

OK, I know someone in Leeds who couriers all over the country and is always looking for extra work returning from London etc., really good bloke. Shall I put you in touch?

Yes please!! Another number to try is always good

Bugger

Does anyone know where a Quaife UCR PG1 input shaft and main shaft second gear can be sourced from?

John advises that Quaife have not made any since the early naughties and are out of stock. The Lotus factory parts dept is closed till Monday and unlikely to have any.

The other option is SC UCR kit! Apart from the noise and cost are there any other + /- I need to be aware of?. (Back in the day I had a 1380 Mini with SC CR box and SC drop gears so have some idea of what to expect)

Harvey, go the whole way and throw a Quaife 6 speed box in it. It will go even better. Do they still do them ? Not cheap either i expect.

Collected the car from John this evening - been apart from each other for 6 weeks!

Settled for a rebuilt B4BP via the Gearbox Man via JSR so have a box full of Quaife UCR components if anyone needs some spares.

First impressions bearing in mind it was peeing it down, are not too disappointing. Time will tell when I get it on track

Good news Harvey (& Karen)
