Where is the best place to get one?
I believe the eliseparts one is not actually a baffled sump but rather a windage baffle
I thought Plans did one?
Thanks, I’ll give graham a call tomorrow
sorry to sound dumb but never heard of a windage one before whats the difference

Windage tray keeps sump oil from coming up into contact with the bottom end, baffling keeps the oil in the pick-up area.
See here for some good pics of a Toyota sump that offers both:

cheers for that
I spoke to one of the guys at scholar today and they told me that they don’t use baffled sumps and they haven’t had a problem with all the engines they have prepared

they get to rebuild the engines after they are knackered - so it would never be a problem to them
that did cross my mind when he was telling me

Seriously, I don’t know if there is a downside to having one, so I can’t see why, with the cornering forces we are talking about, you would not have one on the options list. I also like the theory behind the windage tray - so why not have both.
Unless, they offer a dry sump conversion…

Steve, I know that Scholar were commissioned, by Lotus, to rebuild your engine, but they don’t just do rebuilds! Although Mr Erland may have his differences with Scholar, they are well respected in the motorsport world for their work on engines!
PS Will you be at the Buckles this Friday?
Scholar are indeed a very well respected outfit - I counted myself very lucky to have my engine rebuilt by them and a good job they have done.
My comments were really meant tongue in cheek.
What’s on on Friday?

Big event to present cheques from the calendar sales to our two chosen charities and a talk by Lotus expert Paul Robinshaw. Paul has written several excellent books on classic Lotuses and has recently published a pictorial history of the Elise with definitive facts and figures and some shots of earlier Lotus models. Very well received by the Lotus fraternity.

Russ & I are having a trip up (to pay for our group’s Le Mans infield parking & lappage before the race ), & it would be good to see you & the Boss again
bugger - might not be able to get a pass for that…missed valentines day and had to arrange a hasty meal out at the local manor - booked for friday night
