Bad emmisions

Hello,

I’m suffering some problems with my VHPD engine.
It runs different after every start, sometimes 700/800rpm, 1200/1300rpm,1800/2000 rpm. Different all the times in every weather and temperature (even engine temperature doesn’t make a difference).
Also if it is not running on full throttle the ignition isn’t stable and it puffs worse than my grandfather.
It is a VHPD engine just ran 5000km after rebuild, kat replacement pipe, 190bhp upgrade. Problems on the emmisions (CO is 5.75 instead of 0.5) Fuel economy is about 6 km each liter ?
Who knows what to do ?

Is the engine coolant temperature sensor properly connected?

It sounds like it thinks its running cold. Pull the coolant sensor plug off and see if it makes any difference.

Otherwise could be possible that the throttle pot isn’t happy and doesn’t know whether it should be closed or not? Not too expensive to change.

Hey Bob, thanks for your advise. Do you mean by throttle pod the “throttle position sensor” ?

Yes.

The “TPS” on the later Elise S2 190s is a known weakness, their manifold is different though. It sounds like yours is an S1 which has travelled a long way, so I wouldn’t be surprised if it were to wear out.
