Just a quick hello…I pick up my 2010 model Exige S with PP, A/C, Touring and Motorsport alloys in Burnt Orange on Saturday from Murray Lotus (it’s the used one on their website with 3k on the clock).
Was prev on here back in '06 with a Lazer Blue dealer edition Exige S which I modded lightly as back then nothing was really available. From reading the forums again things seemed to have moved on a bit what with chargecooling and now (at last) remapping available. Doubt any of you will remember me but if you do i was one of the 1st people Jim made and supplied a 2bular too (I had a GT3 style exhaust with a commedy sized burnt blue tail pipe and a panel eliminator kit) in fact my old car is the blue exige on the 2bular website.
Anyway, look forward to picking up the new motor and getting on a few track days so will no doubt be speaking to you all again soon. Oh one last thing - as I’m driving the motor back from Scotland to Kent does anyone know if theres an ipod adapter to change the ipod interface on the Alpine stereo into a standard 3.5mm jack ? I’ll need some music for the 8 hour journey!
Hi Whitey, your 2bular pics on the website inspired me to change my exhaust to a gt3 mine is also laser blue, didnt get one quite as large as yours tho
Congrats on your new exige, did you trade your old one in or has it been gone a while?
Good to hear I had a hand in you buying a 2bular too. The lazer blue Exiges do look nice, I never tired of mine just hope that I feel the same way about burnt orange after a few months (!)
I sold mine after a year and a half as work commitments meant I had to do a lot more long distance motorway miles. I had an M5, then an M3 and then a Spec C impreza before comming back round to an Exige again. All the cars were good in there own way although none of them felt as special as the Exige. Other than the lotus the Spec C was probably the best albeit a potential killer as the combo of 400+bhp, 4 wheel drive and lightweight meant silly speeds on silly roads were an everyday occurance, all good until something goes wrong(!)
Anyway i cant wait until the weekend, I’m like a 5 yr old on xmas eve!!!
Quite fancy going down the chargecooler, 2bular header, decat and larger (3inch?) system and a remap. Bit worrried the gearbox might lunch itself tho as I’d be getting close to 280+bhp with that lot. Wonder how much (and how easy) it is to fit the uprated celica GT4 'box?
GT4 box is no good, I am going to be doing a gearbox upgrade soon as I have already lunched one with 300hp. IMHO 300hp if used on the road will probably survive ok, but on track no chance of it surviving for any time period sadly
To modify the gearbox, you have to replace the gearset by a c-one set.
check http://www.c-one.co.jp/
I know you can source this set from UK but I do not remember the name.
While you do this, replace the flywheel and the clutch!
There have been a lot of testing with the c-one set and they still don’t last on track with high HP.
I am going to be getting stronger straight cut gears for 3rd and 4th from Jubu racing adding a skinny flywheel, LSD and gearbox oil cooler, this I am hoping is going to sort the issue. The syncros are still a bit fragile just have to be careful with them
300bhp is a nice figure (!) what mods are you running?
The list is long…
Proalloy Charge cooler
Full 2bular exhaust inc 4-1 manifold (no CAT)
Uprated 190lph fuel pump
440cc injectors
Smaller SC pulley
Custom IC pipework
Custom map by Sinclaire motorsport
Proalloy oil catchcan
Proalloy triple pass rad
Exedy Clutch
There is more but those are the highlights
That lists a sight for sore eyes…I’ve been reading some prev threads about your tune and to be honest I’ll be happy with approx 280bhp so was thinking just chargecooler, zorst and remap?
Did you notice iny significant gains from the manifold?(i guess you must have fitted this after you did the chargecooler, zorst and remap - would love to know the before and afters)
With my old Exige I did a few track days, got a bit fed up getting left behind on the straights by Nobles, etc hence the urge for some more ponies.
Before you sat it tho I know, I know…I’ll go a lot quicker with driver training, brakes the size of saturn, suspension from Mclaren, etc. Problem is after owning and tweaking my old Spec C impreza I cant help but try and squeeze more power.
I only did this as someone had to be first, the manifold made a big difference in mid range power which is what you want in the end not peak, the mid range is awsome I post my last dyno later on.
By the time you have done all the other work the smaller pulley and custom map takes you from around 270+ to 300+ so the cost difference is small, but the more over 270 you go the greater the risk to the gearbox, you will need a new clutch after about 250hp as it won’t last…
