Just ordered a set of Toyo 888 - will give them a go at Oulton next Thursday.
May I enquire as to the cost of said set?

No probs, mate. 460 delivered from http://www.camskill.co.uk/
Not saying they’re the cheapest (simply don’t know), but they were very helpful/knowledgeable & the tyres will be delivered on Monday.

425 from C&S Tyres in Middlesborough…speak to Mark. 01642 245 339. Mine delivered the following day direct from Toyo Tyre (UK) Ltd. Their telephone number if anybody wants is 01933 411144. Local (good) fitter charges me 7.50 a corner if I take old tyres away.

there seems to be mixed opinion on them… certainly on the S2 anyway…
TBH, I’ve only heard positive feedback from those who’ve tried them. Can you recall who’s not been happy, & why?
Quite a few threads on SELOC where folks have said that they overheat quite quickly compared to 48’s, although tyre pressures maybe the issue I suppose, also the tread is more ‘flexible’. SOme have even said they wear faster than 48’s… which is hard to believe as they are harder than the 48’s… Look forward to your thoughts when they are on…

Well #Rob any conclusions after Oulton??
Well #Rob any conclusions after Oulton??
Very good tyres, but didn’t find them quite as capable, on my car, as the 48s.
Struggled with understeer, I’m afraid. Need to do another day, stiffening up the rear dampers, & perhaps a slight change to my driving style.
In saying the above, I can’t recall ever going around Oulton as fast as I did last Thursday - the weather & track conditions were perfect, my car is really well set up (thanks to Phoenix Motorsport), & I was “in the mood”
I’d have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending the Toyos, & they do “balance up” much better than the 48s, so not a trace of steering wheel wobble
so Rob… did you try different tyre pressures ? did they overheat at all ? and what was the wear like ?
Yep, played around with the tyre pressures - from 28psi to 24psi hot (all round), & was still understeering after 3 or 4 laps. However, I had different passengers(with quite a differential in weight!) out with me most of the day, so it wasn’t easy to properly judge the tyres. Although all 4 tyres are now well “grained”, they seemed to wear quite well.
Just been to the monthly Nyloc meet near York, & I checked the cold pressures before setting off (for the first time since Oulton where they were 24psi all round), & ascertained 20psi front & 22psi rear. They felt really good on the road, being a 150 mile round trip. Funnily enough on the return trip I was thinking about the tyres, & concluded that even if I can’t tweak things so the Toyos are as good as the Yokos (on my car!), then I’d still go for the Toyos in future, & save myself circa 120 per set.
Sorry, can’t be more precise - but I can say it’s well worth trying the Toyos & see how they suit your own car set up/driving style.
That’s a good review Rob… am thinking about running the harder R888 on mine as a road tyre and leaving the A048s as dedicated track-slag boots on a second set of rims. Having said that, I’ll probably run 048s on road and track for the next 6 months or so until I can afford the new rims.
If you found the Toyos understeery have you tried backing your ARB off a notch or two to make the car a little bit pointier?

That’s on the list of things to try in due course, George. I’ll try dropping the pressures a couple of psi first, then a couple of additional clicks on the rear Nitrons.
As I say above, it’s early days, so can’t really come to any proper conclusions. As it happens, it’s unlikely I’ll be doing any more trackdays this year, though

Thanks for your concern, David.
Car is going to the Edwards next weekend, & they’ll have it for a month or so for some fettling. We’re then into Nov, & the car is on the LDC stand at the Classic Car Show at the NEC http://www.necclassicmotorshow.com/

No worries, just thought youd booked a hip replacement or something .
http://www.necclassicmotorshow.com/ looks like it could be good fun though, even if there arent any exhibitors yet… .

I have recent experience of living with a hip replacement patient the mother-in-law so if Pesky wants after care at the Churchtown Nursing Home, he’s welcome. He can’t be any more disruptive than my current patient!
