Audio - or not going deaf!

My S2 has an Alpine audio (standard fit I think) which is so useless that I wondered why Lotus bothered fitting it into such an environment.

At the same time, as a way of encouraging SWMBO to travel in the thing for longer journeys, I thought of getting some decent noise cancelling headsets to hook up some music. Question is do I just use a separate iPod with a charger or do something a little more ‘built in’. The Alpine unit does not seem to have any provision for either iPod or earphones so inclined to just ignore it, but I would be grateful for any feedback from anyone who has done anything along these lines.

Thanks

I’ve been thinking about headsets etc ready for the spa trip - did the trip to Reverie and was not pleasant

So what do we think - intercom system or just decent noise cancelling headsets ?

I changed the rear speakers in mine for some decent ones and its mint now.

Oh, I also changed the headset for a bit more upmarket Alpine head unit i had knocking around.

Now you know I don’t have a radio - just teasing me

you can whistle, cant ya Chris?

I tried singing very loudly. SWMBO said if I did not stop, she would never go in the car. That could be a good thing!

But - I really would like to do some longer trips so I will have to experiment a bit. Don’t see the point in chamging the in car audio as the speakers are mounted in rather flimsy plastic which does little for sound quality. The engine / exhaust / SC sounds much better. Also want cut noise out not add to it. Not sure if noise cancelling headphones can work off just iPod power though. Ho hum…

Sennheiser do some neat wired noise reducing headphones powered by an in-line battery(PXC 150) but I use some Blue- tooth rechargeable Sennheiser PXC 310 BT’s which link wirelessly to my Nokia. Both work very well but with a K-series I need to check every so often that all is well enginewise!

I switched the standard apple headphones for some sennheiser in-ear head phones. Now my iPod is on half the volume instead of on max. They are not noise reduction ones but fit so neat that they work like proper earplugs. A cheaper alternative to the above I guess. Just keep an extra eye on the street and mirrors.

Speakers and radio unit are out

Thanks guys. Travelling a lot at the moment so will see what is on offer at Schipol.

Been to Appleby, then?

Lotus is just out of view…

Yes, that’s me coaxing Supercharger into harness. Guy on the left is woried about the gearbox. Seems to be missing.

I find the std alpine enough for a bit of background music, not sure id want to put a big stereo in as i still like to hear the exhaust somewhat
