Audi R8 LMS launch

I was at the Essen Motorshow yesterday and was able to attend the launch of the Audi R8 LMS.

It is a GT3 class race car and 8 teams will run it in 2009 before its general release for the 2010 season.

With the 5.2ltr V10 engine it will be one of the best cars available. Without doubt the best GT race car I’ve seen, awesome design, extremely well laid out and it will take some beating.

Only the door outer and the roof panels are alu, the rest is complete carbon.

Awesome looking car…

Although i thought that you were not allowed 4WD in GT3, does this mean that it is 2WD ?

There must also be a road car version to validate their entry…

You are right its RWD and the Ceramic brakes might have to go as there is no series that allows them atm.

Its essentially the same engine as in the Gallardo Super Trefeo that we tested in Rome this week. That car is a great improvement on our current Gallardo but we reckon the R8 being lighter, better gearbox and bigger rear tyre will make this car the one to beat in 2010 when it goes on general release.

It will run in 2009 with 8 teams Audi have already signed up.

Couldn’t help notice but all the blokes hanging aound in pic 1 have the same shirt and tie and there suits all look the sam cut. Are they the Men In Black? Or just the Auid corporate bunch?

Never the less a great looking beast. The S1 will have it in the corners everytime.
