Are The new GT3 Exiges in the GT Race At Donington this weekend?

If so does anyone know whats happening and any helpful web links?

Only one of the lotus GT3’s made it to donnington.

Apparently there having problems with the new engine. Although the one that was there had been going fine with no problems… until 2nd qualiflying when it also went up in smoke. I’m not suprised though as they are getting 350 bhp out of a 1.8 litre engine !! The car was very fast until it went up in smoke.

They’ve done a huge amount of work on the aero package, windows are now flush with the edge of the roof, rear flick up has gone from rear clam, no roof scoop.

So no lotus gt3 in the main gt race today and i doubt tomorrow either. There was a cup 255 in one of the support races.

Hi Chris,

Great to meet up yesterday. I like the one you got of the Viper…watching that car go into the barrier…you feel so helpless knowing that a perfect car mechanically is going to be so “unperfect” in a few seconds when it hits the barrier tyres!!

350 from a modern 1.8 doesn’t sound a huge amount…evo 8 fq400 had 400 from a 2 litre in a road car!

Maybe the problem is they are not allowed to modify the internals and the toyota is a high compression engine which does not take kindly to running the boost needed for 350 hp…just a guess.

Would be good to see them getting the cars to the finish line. Good luck Lotus.

Some great road cars just don’t make great race cars if restricted by regulations. I was at Donnington today (sunday) and there was a Lotus 255 in the Belcar race, and to be honest it was a mobile chicane against the rest of the field.

Strange because Lotus say that the Exige at that spec is a race car. Mind you last year at Donnington it was a mobile chicane against the rest of the field then.

They claimed it was due to lack of grip, but have since widened the car and put fatter wheels on it.
