Thanks for the info Ade, I forgot about the limited throttle thing. Should have twigged it wasn’t extra boost as such, as there is no actuator / boost bleed on the Exige having looked it it. So the only way you could change boost is with a pulley. But the ECU mod seems the way to go. Don;t think I can stretch to the charge cooler just yet though, so just going for the ECU.
Hi Pesky fair comment, but there must be people out there who have upgraded. Then found the insurance gone up by a certain percent.Just want to find out from peoples experiences, because i would like to upgrade at some point.

That’s my point, generalisations are meaningless - you will need to get your own specific quotes, because you will be dealing in a very “specialised” insurance market. What someone else pays, will not necessarily indicate what you would pay. As well as the things mentioned before, an insurer will take into account your intended use (eg SDP only or + business), trackday cover, annual mileage, location, & anything else which they consider may affect the perceived risk.
Also, experience shows that just because an insurer will take on a risk today, doesn’t mean that they will in 3 months time. I suggest that you get your own quotes shortly before you start “upgrading”
I agree - some won’t charge, some will charge loads, and some will just say no thanks.
It’s easier just to ring them - I certainly wouldn’t go on what someone else had to pay
yes, but it is nice to get some feedback from other peoples experiences, thats one part of learning from the forum.
It gets cheaper as you get older !
Gp, but there are only one or 2 people with ECU upgrades of this type on here.
Just ring them up and ask! Takes 5 minutes.
There is no increase in boost from the Gotham tune, the gain is made from allowing the throttle to open fully rather than how it is from the factory at about 65%.
When I read the original thread about this upgrade it was the possible effect on the engine internals that concerned me. If the factory limits the throttle to 65% then I assume opening it out via the Gotham tune still keeps the throttle within the design limitations of the engine and therefore the additional stress on the internals is not a consideration. Or am I talking complete rubbish?
More power would most often than not result in additional stress or accelerated wear - compared to an otherwise standard car.
But how much more wear and how fast the consequence of such additional wear will appear varies (e.g. prior engine health, extent of mods, usage, etc.). In any case, I would think that factory cars generally have a little tolerance built-in for obvious reasons (warranties and liabilities).
Life is short, play hard!
I agree, we are only doing what Lotus has now done with the Cup 260 I think they deliberatly did it to give themselves an easy upgrade path, once you start increasing the boost is when you might start to get issues more quickly, but as said it can be all down to how you treat your car…
Plus the Toyota engine is a strong one…
As long as it has sufficient cooling, good oil and healthy AFR then it should not have any short or medium term effect on the engine. Even long term I doubt it would be a problem.
Is it the same ECU tune for the 240S ?
I did email Hanger111 but no reply .
No the tune is nothing like the 240S one, you have to contact Sinclaire Motorsport on 01708 343904 and ask to speak to Wayne not Hanger 111
