Ive been away from exiges.com for a while as a lot was going on in life, nearly had to sell the car, but luckily ive managed to keep hold of it.
Just wondered if anyone from USA has a S1 Exige/Elise and the grief of having one.
My Families green card petiton has been accepted and im hoping to move out to the states in a few months but I want to take my Exige with me, are there any problems doing this as it was never released out there?
Im moving to SW Florida, just south of sarasota, I belive some states have different rules compared to others.
Seem to re-call a post on SELOC many moons ago that made reference to an actual list of cars that were deemed classics and such could be imported without going through all the stringent tests, etc necessary to take a new car there. Unfortunately, I don’t think the Exige was on the list and as the S1 Exiges were only ever imported as track-only cars, I thought it was near-impossible if not impossible.
That’s not to say that someone hasn’t been able to pull a flanker and do it.
I do also remember an internet story (complete with scanned copies of the local paper) about a Smart owner who did a personal import of a Smart Crossblade - the one without a roof, windscreen or doors (the 2-11 of the Smart world!) thathad the car impounded by the local police because they thought that it was “illegal”.
Good luck with the move and hope you manage to get the car over there - maybe as a re-bodied Elise? I’ve always fancied shipping the Exige over there for a good coast to coast run.
and the year before a mint Dolly Sprint (TOTALLY STUNNING…image to follow). The Dolly might have got in being a Classic not sure but the SP4 had to find a back door because of emission import rules . Anyway I’ll get all the info and pass it on ASAP. Not sure how far it’ll all go but a good place for you to start, I’ll PM you soon.
