PM Benja for a potential Honda
why buy a vhpd?
most of it will have to be chucked away;-
pstons ruined against GKN liners - all scrap
flywheel hideously out of balance and doesn’t fit - scrap
crank - hideously out of balance and ruined by tuftriding - scrap
head probably soft - scrap
valves , cams , springs, retainers all better replaced - scrap
that leaves you with block castings and rods plus TBs of value and all of those can be piced up for a couple of hundred quid - how many are prepared to sell a complete engine for that - what in fact a vhpd is worth.
Honestly start with a standard engine and just buy a new head and TBs - you will be much better off.

Out of interest Simon, have you done the maths? As I have know idea what they’d be.
I assume you mean a std K from say a Rover 218? What’s one of those worth (not a lot I’d have thought)?
From the above you’d then need liners, flywheel, crank, head, valves, cams, springs and retainers. Now I’m sure you can spend loads on any of those items but what’s a ball-park.
Added to the 200 for block, castings, rods and TBs, gives…?
Then we get to the labour question?
I’ve never thought about it in bits, just an overall number.
Cheers, Ian
