Anyone know where to get a VHPD ECU tested?

My S1 Exige is blowing the fuse to the ECU. I’ve been having intermittent starting problems, the fuel pump was shot and now replaced and primes ok, but there’s no fuel going to the injectors and with the fuse blowing to the ECU (it didn’t before the pump was replaced) the ECU appear to be the culprit.

It’s different from standard Elise ECU apparently, which is blinking typical.

Any suggestions or thoughts on who could test the ECU or failing that, anyone have one I could borrow?

Any help gratefully received, it’s been off the road for various reasons since July :frowning:

I’ve also posted on seloc and contacted junks, but if anywhere can help, I assume it will be here. Fingers crossed.

Doesn’t a guy called Dave Andrews work on or offers improvements over the standard S1 Exige ECU?

Edit - yes he does

Thanks, yes DVA was on my list if an Emerald needs to be bought replace the standard ECU

I believe the Exige shares the same ECU as the Esprit V8…

Is your car a std. 177bhp or the 190?

The seloc wiki suggests this. It’s a 177

The ECU is manufactured by EFI and is rather special. You can find some information about thre ECU in my ‘sorting drivability problems’ thread.
In the following post a company is mentioned that may help with this ECU:

[u]Exiges.com - Exiges.com - Lotus exige club

Check the idle air control valve mount, if still fitted. They are know to break, then the IACV moves around and the wire to the plug touches the gearbox casing, eventually wearing through the insulation and blowing various fuses.

trackrod and JDS, thank you.

Thanks, I’ve just messaged Dan from HPE

I’m not sure he can after speaking with him.

Hey I have a 177 ECU in storage, get in touch and perhaps we can arrange something

I have found a place that can test the EFI ecu, they have done these on the Esprit.

They are based in Nottingham, they are called Bluestreak.co.uk.

Cheers

Hi Gents - suggest checking the crank sensor as well - I do have a working 177bhp you can borrow - im sure we can come to an arrangment . I had similiar problems and thought it was my ECU … engine ran fine with it albeit at 177 instead of alleged 190, The crank sensor was the culprit. I live in Sussex , Work in Hampshire and regularly in the Uxbridge area is that helps .

if it keeps popping fuses imediately on key turn, it will be a short/overload not a ecu problem i would imagine (ecu’s vary rarely fail) look for wiring rubbed through or a pinched wire that wasnt before.

go back to basic’s visual check there is no obvious signs of shorting (i.e rubbed through insulation on metal, then start unplugging anything than uses power to operate only engine wise.

Injectors, IACV, lambda etc etc, do this periodically untill the ecu fuse stops popping, which should find the culperit.

I have a VHPD 177 ECU available if you cannot resolve things.
