As some of you may know I have been on the lookout for an exige S for a few months now. Ideally was looking at orange or green however this Exige sprint in yellow/white has been for sale at MS supercars in Lincoln for a couple of months:
The problem is it’s 5hrs 30mins drive for me so quite some distance to have a look. It’s a one owner from new car with full service history with lotus. It is higher mileage (67k) than I was looking for which is putting me off a bit. It hasn’t in the past as I know that if a car is well maintained/looked after it is worth more in my eyes than a low mileage neglected vehicle. Haven’t had any experience with lotus however, mostly performance fords and Audi.
Looking for any thoughts. Anything I should be worried about here? Anyone in the local area that has maybe seen the car? Anyone dealt with MS supercars previously? They do seem to have some pretty high end stuff for sale.
I would not be worried by the mileage myself if it can be had a the right price, I reckon you could get a real good deal on it if they have had it a while, I’d ring and be cheeky and offer £25k subject to inspection.
If it looks right with all the usual stone chips it should have with that mileage and it has a clean bill of health on HPI then why not.
Sprints tend to hold slightly better value and low number of owners is appealing, plenty of "0k mile cars have had 7 or eight owners by now!
I was thinking along those lines although the car was previously advertised at around £29.5k so not sure they would drop it much more.
Anything else I need to check for. It is advertised as having a full lotus service history but is there any big ticket items I need to make sure have been done. Anything with the supercharger or maybe any recalls for anything that needs checked up on?
oil cooler pipe recall, check the AC works and look for signs of accident damage or any new suspension components. Use rusty looking suspension to bid him down on the car, whilst it doesn’t look great a little surface rust could get you some more £’s off. There is nothing super expensive on these apart from clutch gearbox and engine, consumables for brakes etc are all reasonable
Hi, I bought a blue sprint earlier this year. Absolutely love it, the cars come with a great spec list.
I saw the ad on pistonheads for your one, looks nice, if it’s been well looked after, mileage won’t be an issue (may effect the resale value a little but you’re picking it up for 5k+ less than other Sprints with lower mileage.
Have a look at the suspension and the discs, pads and tyres.
If it looks good then why not. It’s a real head turner.
Some things to check are of it has had the radiator upgraded to like a ProAlloy one as the plastic end caps on the Lotus ones will eventually go.
Check if the air con is working, cold and hot.
Does it come with harnesses (double check the harness bar is there).
