Another Exiges meet with Frank

Yeah so was passing through LA Saturday and met up with Frank and the now YouTube famous Rocket Pig …

What a day, weather was not so good so we almost didnt get a canyon run, you dont want to be in the damp on grooved slicks :astonished: but as you can see from the pic … we did :sunglasses: and you can see that the roads have to be pretty serious in that terrain.

Now Frank is a seasoned petrol head no doubt and a really great guy, totally open about what he has done, what he has broken and what works and what doesn’t. Its clear from the pistons and con rods on the garage floor that this is development and that its not just blah blah … the years of dealing with Group B rally cars have clearly had an influence !

What amazed me first was how the thing looked and the details, it would take pages to explain but just to see how the carbon fibre aero additions are let into the bodywork not just stuck on shows a respect for doing it right … it just looks real pro. And dont be fooled by the rear wing, that thing bolts to the chassis not anywhere on the body, very deceptive in photos.

So we went for a short run and the first shock was that we had to take the freeway to actually get from Franks house to the good roads, shock because apart form the noise the thing drove at sensible speeds and in traffic easy … no drama. Obvious then that the set up is done absolute correct.

The second shock was those damn canyon roads are full of suprises, rocks in the road, corners that go on for ever and often not giving a clue which way the road is going. The “snake” was just like a hillclimb course … more rally course than track.

The third shock was the way the thing just gripped and held on through those corner, very flat, no real push and zero drama … just hooked up and went. Clearly its well set up the wider track, aero etc all working together.

And finally does it move ? Oh yes it just picks up from 2000 and pulls like a steam train, you can feel the wall of torque and I know Frank was being careful due to the weather and rocks but the gearing means you dont have to change gear often and on those roads thats working perfect.
On the straight sections, when there was one, the acceleration is giving you that rollercoaster feeling in your gut, yes its really doing 120 from 60 in a blink so serious power and torque at work for sure.

So a real thank you to Frank for the time he spent with me and getting me back to the aiport on time

Anyone that doubts this cars abilities needs to get on a plane to LA !

Great write up Andy :sunglasses:
