Anglesey - Message from John & Jan in the GT3 RS

Still waiting to be accepted onto Exiges.com; so have asked Rob to post this for us.

Just to say a big thanks to Rob and everyone else who made us very welcome on Saturday.

Just over a week ago we happened to notice BookaTrack had a trackday on Good Friday at Anglesey; one of our favourite circuits; and there were still a few spaces available. Better still we were in credit with BaT from a cancelled Donnington day after that circuit was closed for the failed F1 development; so Anglesey was not really going to cost us.

So early Friday morning we set off for Anglesey, going via a snowy Snowdonia; arriving just in time for the safety briefing.

Although we drive a 997 RS we are still definitely learners when it comes to trackdays; so we’d arranged for Mike Wilds, who we knew was travelling up on the Friday for the Exige day; to arrive a bit earlier and give us some tuition. He’d planned to get there for midday, but got there just after the sighting laps ended. Perfect!

During Friday we got chatting to Rob, who invited us along to the Exige day. Since we were already there we just had to find somewhere to kip for the night, and call the kids at home to tell them to sort themselves out (not a problem). We got Premier Inns’ last room in Caenarfon for the night; and just hoped no-one noticed we were wearing the same clothes for 2 days!

We had a very enjoyable meal out with some of you on Friday night. ( We can’t remember everyone’s names…sorry!) Then off to Caenarfon for some sleep and a shower.

Driving back to the circuit on Saturday morning I suspect we may have been got by a scamera van for doing about 36 in a 30 limit. Grrrrrr!

Saturday’s weather was a lot warmer than Friday’s and if we were being used as target practice it wasn’t too intimidating! We did notice a couple of other non-Lotuses on track as well; so we didn’t feel so bad! We went out just after the sighting laps had finished; usually a really busy time on circuit; but it seemed we were the only ones out. Except for the hare that we had to slow and bib the horn for as it slowly crossed the track at the exit of Peel.

We got plenty of track time; just hope we didn’t hold the faster cars up too much. Everyone seemed very well behaved on track and we had a really good day.

Thanks again to everyone for making us so welcome. I (John) have been lurking on Exiges.com as we are considering a Lotus Exige or Elise as a track-car. The Porsche is great; but as you get faster the bills for brake pads and tyres rise sharply; and a lighter car with lower track costs is very tempting. Won’t sell the RS though, so just need to do some saving.

Here are a few photos and some video taken on the day.

Ever felt you were the odd one out?

PS promise future posts won’t be this long-winded if we’re let in!"

John, Jan and our orange Porsche ( that suddenly didn’t look so bright when compared to Pesky’s car!)

Cheers - John & Janet - pleased you wanted to join in, both on & off track, & that you enjoyed yourselves :sunglasses:

I’m not the only one on here, who has a penchant for GT3RS’s

PS Not sure why the final pic is not showing up?

Good to meet you John & Jan

Who would have thought that there was another couple in Henley who can only be described as petrol heads.

Your car look great by the way.

Harvey & Karen

:sunglasses: Excellent

Nice to talk with you on Friday Jan

Gorgeous motor, only Porker I’d consider ( if I could afford one  )

Welcome to Exiges.com

Nice to meet you John - and was looking forward to the convoy back to the premier inn - until we discovered we were in different ones

Was great to meet you both on saturday. Many thanks for the pax laps. What an absolutely awesome car the RS is! And in that colour :sunglasses:

Thanks John :sunglasses:

Pleased to see you using “higher gears” this year - I’m sure it must help with balancing the car. Next year, try changing into 4th on the pit straight (rather than holding 3rd), & 5th before the very fast curve at the end of the back straight, & keep your foot planted  (Obviously build the speed up during the day, using these higher gears!)

…and take the sunnies of the passenger shelf! :sunglasses:

Maybe now a constructive point…try turning in a little later (seem to be ‘pinching’ the corners at the exit), will let you get back on the power earlier and more positively - you want to be already hard on the power and unwinding lock by the apex.

Keep the tips coming !!

When listening to your favourite CD, simply turn up the sound to the volume you desire - then turn it down three notches. This saves your wife having to do it.
