Back from a really enjoyable day at Anglesey and now attacking my dead alternater…
Cant find any guidance in SEARCH so Help please :: I have got access to the Alt and have loosened the bolts, removed oil filter for access but now wonder what is the best way to remove it ?..Does it come out up, down or through the wheel arch…they all look impossible to me.
do I loosen/remove the cold air feed pipe?
Thanks peeps.
Take off the wheel liner, it will come out honest - but its all about getting the angle right - best to remove the adjusting bracket
Best to remove foil cool air feeder duct
Thanks Simon finally cracked it and look what I found.
No wonder it failed …where did that come from? (large screw sticking out of housing.)
Blimey, I lost that screw at Anglesey, what luck you found it lol, can you post it onto me
Seriously, that really is bad luck

No excuse accepted!
It would bad form not to talk to (aka chat up) a very attractive lady
Getting the alternator out is a PITA. I had to grind the head on the adjustor bolt on mine to get it out. Easy way is to replace it the other way around so that it can be withdrawn through the arch liner.
Word of warning Clive… the day I rebuilt the alternator on mine, I reinstalled and restarted the car and heard a slight knock in the engine… it was this knock that led to my ongoing rebuild… you have been warned
Hi George …in the end it came out reasonably easily through to wheel arch. I fitted the new one I had in reserve for the new “Monster” DVA engine.
Dave reports the front big ends cracking up and very bad wear/scoring on pistons and liners. Does this sound familiar?
Cant wait to hear you have actually driven yours.
Cheers
Clive… sounds pretty much identical to mine! Let’s hope they have similarly wonderful results.
I’m going to be running mine off a Link G4 Xtreme which is a fair bit more capable than the Emerald… probably going to be the main point of difference in my build compared to what everyone else has done thus far
Sounds like my thoughts where right (about having to restore it within a year or change to Honda)… good to know though the old heart is being restored well.
