Airbox Ducting

Gday all

After working my way through the manual that I downloaded from Phil’s site (top banana, thanks again !!) I noticed that the airbox ducting goes to the left hand air intake via a little attachment. Mine just hangs pointing to the floor!!. I know the one in the picture was a carbon-fibre box, where mine is the origional. Does this matter ?
Also when I take mine apart there is a little oil sitting in the bottom of the airbox. Is this normal?
Regards as ever

Jason.

Jason,

Mine just hangs aswell but I think you can get a “Motorsport” attachment for 90… Or a plant pot for 90p and hang it over the duct IYSWIM… There’s a long thread about it in the Q&A IIRC.

The oil in the airbox is also normal, the venting tube comes from the cam cover on the head and into the near side of the airbox… You can redirect this to a catch can and clean out the airbox. I remember the MR2 boyz would get nice shiney chrome catch cans for some engine bay bling

I’ve sorted mine out recently.

Bought a adaptor from Lotus 35 for a really nasty quality adaptor which connects to the side vent (it also has a good hole to allow any water etc to get out). The std hose doesn’t reach though, so I got a plastic tub, cut the bottom out and then used as a bridging piece, seems to work but need to get a better bridging pieces as it’s not a great fit.

The std hose doesn’t reach though

Surprised that whoever you got it from didn’t advise you that you also needed the Motorsport trunking - its that bit longer and obviously fits between airbox and side vent - its not an expensive part if i recall rightly.

About 120 quid

You can get silicon trunking that does the job ( brake ducts as well )- but its still about 60 quid for the right length - cheaper if you can live with orange colour ( had it on the Min) - well more brick colour actually see HERE

Checked my invoice as I did not pay that much…guess what its not listed although the labour to fit it is!

Come in mike lane, time to make your engine bay orange too! [Although your wonder engine probably doesn’t need air does it?! ]

Ian

It ran today Ian…

And I know where you live…

Actually though - I am looking into brake ducting, and will need to have a serious talk with the Mexijock

Functional, Roxx Functional

How about this for orange ducting?

DT

Not exactly brick coloured, but I see your point…

I was told it wouldn’t and from looking at it knew it wouldn’t, I planned to find a cheaper option than the 80+VAT the new hose costs! It is slightly cheaper than the 120 Uldis quoted.

Ok, ballpark figure, but you get it, it’s not cheap.

Actually, I haven’t done anything about the kits. The moulds are still there but they need some work to make more scoops, and the shield, well one thing that put me off is that all aluminum spinners are down in england and I would have needed to make all sorts of different sizes in case somebody called with different disks. Since Stuart is no longer selling the Mutsnuts there was no pint in making a bundle.
Besides, I really only see 295mm as a practical size, 285mm would make the surround so thin that the air entry would be very falt and lose flow.

So, if there’s a few of you going to 295mm, let me know, and I will get it going.
