how often should i replace or clean the cone shaped air filter?
The cone filter does not need to be replaced - at least not at every service. Its a Pipercross foam element and Pipercross sell a cleaning agent (I think its an aerosol) which you apply and then rinse in water. Then you re-oil it - again with special oil sold by Pipercross before replacing it into your car.
Of course the car originally came with two, so you can have one cleaned and ready to fit on the shelf and just swap it out at regular intervals.
Its a good idea to check it regularly to ensure its still in one piece and usually empty out any larger items it has collected. Mine always used to have a bit of straw or the old bit of leaf debris, but then that’s probably the types of road I drive.
cheers steve i did clean out the leaves the other day i’ll do a search for the cleaner thanxs
had a look on demon tweeks they seem to have three options but no info, any ideas :confused
the choices are, service kit, filter cleaner and dirt retention oil
at first i thought you would get the last two in the sevice kit but their different looking products
In doubt get the cleaner and oil because that’s what you will need.
OTOH you can call them and they will tell you what the kit consists of.
I got mine 3 years ago and still have enough for the next year or two, they last a long time.
The service kit has everything you need and is alot easier to apply - them both being in aerosol format.
The separate bottles contain a greater quantity of each but are harder to apply.
The choice is yours.
thanks again steve

Halford ‘motorsport’ shops also sell the cleaning solvent and oil… it lasts for ages.
NO rule about how often to clean as it depends on the dustyness of the places you use the car.
I cleaned mine before the TT2005 weekend in May this year and then cleaned it again when I got home… I knew it was dusty (from the state of my front clam ) but couldn’t believe it when the filter was just as dirty as it was when I cleaned it before I went IYSWIM… so 3 days on TT2005 got the filter into the same state as 4-6 months driving at home.
