Advice needed urgently!!

Hi Guys, many thanks for the last posting you all made, i have decided on the Exige S and have put a deposit down to pick the car up on Saturday…sooo excited!!

It’s an '06 Exige S in black with the super sport pack added on, but here comes my dilemma. The exhaust fitted is the Stage 2 exhaust. I have driven the car with this and it sounds amazing but is sooo loud!. The dealer said that most tracks dont like this exhaust being used and has offered to change it to the standard one if i wish.

Now do i keep the stage 2, as it is probably stainless steel (is the original??) and must be increasing performance or do i ask the dealer to replace it with the original exhaust? I am also not too sure if the Stage 2 has a catalytic converter fitted, needed for MOTs i guess.

Also due to the super sport package, the car is set to track height and rigidity. The dealer offered to change this to road set up if needed. I would like to keep the track settings but dont want to approach a speed bump and scrape the car as it is too low. Sorry but i dont have the ride figures but any guesses if i can get away with this?

One more thing, who does the best Exige S insurance quotes?

Any help/suggestions will be warmly welcomed as i have to let the dealer know by mid week so he can prepare the car for me.

Did i mention i can’t wait to get the car?

Thanks chaps,

James

I’d go for the standard offering, enjoy it, then decide if to switch to an aftermarket offering.

The Lotus Stage 2 is just too loud for circuits and an Exige S should be on circuit.

You can pick up standard exhausts for nothing as most owners upgrade to the stage 1 or aftermarket.
So, keep the stage 2 and get hold of a standard for track days. I’m sure the dealer won’t be giving you money off for sticking a standard exhaust on.

Steve’s right.

Leave the stage 2 on there - get a standard one and if you don’t like the noise or need to lower the dbs you can change it - not hard to do.

if its too noisy you could put it on ebay and get some back to pay for track days

it does sound nice though clicky

Thanks guys. Does the stage 2 have a catalytic converter on it?

Also who is best for cheap insurance with a super sport pack on the car?

Adios,

James

Hi James, depends what you mean by cheap. But i can recommend AutoTorque ask for richard on 0161 611 8634, cover for trackdays, agreed valuation etc.

There’s also Competition Car Insurance 01159415255, Richard Egger Insurance 01159850165. Also many more if you do a search on here.

Graham.

Keep the stage 2 and pic up a normal exhuast - there’s been a few going foc on the forums.

For tracks though, you may well have issues with anything thats got a 96db limit or lower, as they can be very loud, and get louder with age!

Hi James

I’m with Autotorque now but have had a recent quote from Richard Eggar via the detail link on SELOC.

They seemed cheaper & included 4 free trackdays which Autotorque charge 10% of the premium for.

Both now have a 4000 track excess though !!!

Chris

so whats the point in having a stage 2 if they are not track legal? are they road legal then?

not officially, you can use them at noisey days, but they are getting rarer all the time. I have gone for quiet performance for this very reason

the point is this

clicky

and this

Peter get whatever imho I swapped the stage 2 (so loud) for standard (so quiet)FOC when I purchased mine but I can garantee the first thing you’ll do is mod the back end! Look around mate lots of alternatives that look and sound way better…
