Availability and price I guess.
Also they are not the lightest but are quite light for their specs.
Furthermore they seem to be a common choice for motorsport use so I guess they are also durable?
Can’t really argue with your thinking, though they are a little heavier than most others available just with them being a generic off the shelf type of design.
Hope you know that Seriously Lotus current has a sale on the TD 1.2 Pro:-
Plus Dave regularly posts on here and by all accounts is great to deal with.
Just to add that yesterday I tried an ET20 9" wide wheel on the rear of my similarly equipped car and the inner rim ends up very close to the chassis - ET23 would obviously be 3mm closer.
If you haven’t done so already, I’d suggest fittting a wheel of known dimensions and measuring it’s clearances to determine what differance a wheel of your specific requirements would then make.
I have S2 GT uprights and chose K-Series TD wheels (purely because I didn’t want the hassle of having to get custom wheels made up).
I run Eliseparts spacers to get them to push them out in the arches a bit, and had to shave a little off the inner lip of the clam to prevent rubbing, but personally I think they now fill the arches perfectly.
Can you recommend any other wheels similarly priced and spec’d that are lighter?
Yeah I talked to Dave and he said although he couldn’t advice on offsets and he didn’t keep in store the specs I am looking for, he could order them for me. He never replied with a price though, must have forgotten.
I see what you are saying about getting clearances but I cannot do that at the moment, my car is in a different country and I’m just gathering parts atm to send them over.
I posted this topic on seloc as well and I have been advised that on the rear if I had et23 with a sticky 255 tyre I would have circa 10mm between the inside edge of the tyre and the chassis. And the inner lip of the clam would have to be trimmed a bit.
Looks good mate. What width are your spacers?
Also can you confirm your hubs are sitting 25mm outside compared with the s1 uprights?
Btw I don’t see a hassle with the TD pro 1.2. They come in many kind of offsets and widths. From demon tweeks for example or any other TD distributor I guess.
Can you get the TDs with the correct centre bore or do you have to use spigots?
Rota do some good wheels too, but you’d end up with a mixed style set to get the your required specs.
I’ve also seen some similar spec wheels by ‘Japan Racing’ that I hesitate to mention as I haven’t tried them myself or know of anyone who has either.
These are the spacers I run… sorry, can’t confirm exact measurements now… it’s been a while.
As I said, the inner lip of the wheel arch needed some trimming - at a guess you’d have to take 5mm off the spacer if you didn’t want to touch the clam at all.
Depends where you buy the wheels from re centre bores!!
All the wheels I stock/supply come with the correct centre bore for the Lotus applications.
Another thing to bear in mind, many suppliers supply 7.5 wide rears and 7.0 fronts. I supply 7.0 fronts and 8.0 rears, except on the VX220
I think demon tweeks only provide them in 73.1 center bore going by their website. Don’t know if you can get 56.6 if you contact them though.
Was thinking of going for et35 on the front instead of et30. Can somebody confirm if et35 7j front wheels on their s2 will clear big 4-pot calipers with ~300mm discs?
Anyone knows how much caliper to wheel clearance is there on the s2 with 4 pots and the team dynamics that Dave provides?
et30 minus 25 of s2 hubs gives essentially 5mm offsets vs the 7mm of the oem exige.
Was thinking of running s2 wishbones as well which are 8mm longer on the front so higher than et30 might make more sense.
