Adjusting rear brake light switch...

Hi

My car seems to have fallen victim to a self adjusted brake light switch syndrome. I’ve left the car a few times overnight, only to find the brake lights have come on and drained the battery flat :frowning:. I’ve taken to using a bungee cord between brake pedal and harness buckle to hold it up which seems to do the trick!

My question is how do I adjust the switch, I can see it on the rear of the pedal box under the bonnet lid but simply cant get to it due to (what I assume are) the heater control valves getting in to the way on to the top of the pedal box assembly.

Has anyone else had this problem and how do you get at it to re-adjust ?

Having a dicky back doesn’t help either in achieving any necessary lotus “contortionist” position!

Cheers

Hi Toby,

You get at the switch from the front compartment. Just find the brake master cylinder and reach rearwards inline with that and it’s there behind the pedal box. You have to turn it 1/8 of a turn until it clicks so that it’s free to move, adjust it as required (probably very slightly towards the front of the car in your case) then click it back again to lock it in position. No tools required whatsoever.

Cheers

If its beggered and a new switch is required - tis a Ford part - 1996 Fiesta I recall

Ok, I can just about see it but its behind a load of vacuum driven valves on a mounting bar. I guess I need to move these aside by undoing the mounting bar with a 90 degree screwdriver. lol - Nothing is ever simple
