Adjustable Carbon Fibre Wing

Yeah, already seen it, thanks Alex.

I’ve no problem with peeps expressing their views about cars, cos I do … particularly roofless exiges. So, live by the sword, die by the sword - but have a laugh too, whilst it’s happening

Looks good, Pesky.

A few questions:

Does it produce a noticeable increase in “real downforce”?
Does this unbalance the car?
Have you got the Edward’s diffuser?

Hi Fiona

Downforce - only got it fitted on Tuesday, so not tried it yet. I am sure that it will definately increase downforce (& unfortunately drag!), as it’s fitted to the longerons on the chassis. It is exactly the same as was fitted to Russ’s (before the fire!), Mark Donald’s former race car, George Mackintosh’s race car, Holly Mason’s S2… to name but a few.

Unbalance the car - not that I am aware of!

Edwards Diffuser - oh, yes!

Pesky - when you post the close up piccies can you show just how it is adjusted and is there any way of knowing what the settings are, ie, degrees of attack? Presumably, it can be backed off to actually give less drag than a standard wing?

The Jury is still out on the looks…but if it does the real job then who cares! Maybe stickers on the endplates would help - I think the original Motorsport Elise had "“Lotus design” and the CAB logo in silver.

Concentrate! Cakes aren’t made from Carbon Fibre, Well I never eaten a carbon one

You have never tasted my missus’s cooking then

FYI!

But they are so expert over there…loved this comment from someone looking at a car with the Motorsport cover removed:

"Has he put a glass window in the back the Exige??? "

Here is some timing done with the DL1, same day, same road same launch tecnique just time to wing off between runs so no cooler air, I did it purely to see what sort of drag the wing was creating in a straight line:

Wing Off Wing On Wing Off Wing On
TIME TIME DISTANCE DISTANCE

0 kph 0 kph 0 kph 0 kph
0 kph == == == ==
10 kph 0.46 0.44 0.65 0.66
20 kph 0.87 0.86 2.39 2.44
30 kph 1.25 1.24 5.06 5.11
40 kph 1.94 1.77 11.77 10.36
50 kph 2.53 2.36 19.18 17.74
60 kph 3.08 2.92 27.59 26.3
70 kph 3.64 3.47 37.76 36.27
80 kph 4.55 4.4 56.98 55.92
90 kph 5.18 5.03 71.99 70.94
100 kph 5.92 5.78 91.54 90.76
110 kph 6.76 6.62 116.1 115.32
120 kph 7.74 7.67 147.44 149.01
130 kph 8.75 8.8 182.55 186.58
140 kph 9.93 9.96 226.91 231.69
150 kph 11.53 11.65 291.66 300.13

You’llnotice that the 0-30 times are almost identical, times are not that much different but the distance to speed starts to really decrease above 140kph, it was 5m less at 140 and 10m less at 150, and propably would have been 20m at 160. So not much in it unless you are really reaching for times.

Only critisism is the end plates which I think are to large and perhaps to low at the moment, sort of detracting from the profile of the wing.

Maybe if you took the roof off in one of the close up’s I would be able to give a more accurate opinion

Steve

Here are a couple of pics:

I’ve now also found this pic of Chav Kershaw in his 2004 British GT car, which just happens to have the identical wing, & made at the same place as mine The mounts look well dodgy to me too

Oh, & another one of Chav in his previous race car to the one above. Yep, it does look familiar, even without Jackie Degg leaning on it

PS Jason

I only take the roof off when I’m going to the hairdresser’s - which sadly, I’ve no need to do very often these days!

Same wing as I have on my car to!!!

They look awesome IMO

Sean…

LOL!

Ian

Nope, it’s no good. I’m just going to need Jakki to lean on my car too before I make my judgement.

You tart!!

You bitch!

I like it In the pictures it seems to be in danger of being a little too big, but having seen some of these wings in the carbon I know they’re OK.

I think you’ve only done this just to stay ahead of my new wing PROJECT

I’ve still got a bit of work to do, but I’m liking the size much better than the original.

I think you’ve only done this just to stay ahead of my new wing

Not at all - I wanted some REAL downforce
