Acusump

apologies if this has been covered before, but does anyone have any experience of whether the S2 suffers from oil surge on track days. I’ve seen the acusump kit in the lotus sport catalgue and wonder whether this, or a baffled sump is thought necessary or wise if you are like me starting to do more track days and starting to drive a bit harder.

For the cost of a baffled sump its a no brainer if you are doing a lot of track days or have upgraded performance.

There will be people who will post that its never happened to them in x years of trackdays…blah blah. But it HAS happened to some cars, even on road, so why run the risk?

Accusump is very good speacially if you uprate suspension as increased cornering speeds will make the oil situation worse.

When I had the suspension done I had to also change the battery for gel type as the acid was leaking on fast long bends.

Not that expensive for the peace of mind you get.

Thanks guys - the suspension is upgraded, so it sounds like for peace of mind an acusump might be next. Have heard about the battery leakage issue, but my concern is that i often leave the car for a couple of weeks between track days and dont have any power to the garage to run an optimate, so will the gel battery hold charge?

How much are these going for?

They come as standard in the cup cars so you’d expect that the Acusump or something similar would be needed for (heavy?) track work.

About 700 + fitting which takes about 2 hrs.

Lotus wouldn’t do my power upgrade without it.

The accusump system also has the added bonus of pre-oiling your engine for you before you start it up from cold.

Basically it operates by storing approx 1.0ltr of oil (under pressure) which is charged from the oil pump while the engine is running. It will then discharge itself when it registers a low oil pressure situation. Once discharged the oil pump refills the storage tank and the system is ready and waiting until it is needed again. However, at the end of the day when you switch the engine off the accusump still holds its charge of oil under pressure. This then gets discharged into the top end of the engine when you next switch the ignition on before you turn the engine over… Brilliant!

Very clever but simple bit of kit imho and something worth attaching to every performance car (especially if its a keeper).
