AC not working

I know it’s not really the time of year for needing AC but if I need to start taking the clam off over winter to sort a more major issue, now’s the time to find out.

What’s the best way to trouble shoot a non working Air con unit? It’s basically not blowing out cold air. The blue led does light up on the btn when pressed, with the fan on any speed. Interestingly the re-circ btn does not light up when pressed. The car is an 07’ NA
Ta Dan

It might just need regassing Dan.

If it was out of gas, would it cause the re-circulation circuit to stop working?

Would that be the fan relay, I can’t remember the symptoms…

Normal Fan blower seems to be working ok on all speeds, but does the recirc circuit have a separate fan?

My A/C hasn’t worked for a while. It’s having the sill pipes replaced at the moment (common fault) and I’m hoping that solves the problem

How old is your car? I heard recently that they changed from Metal to rubber sill pipes at some point in production. I haven’t got a clue what mine are fitted with. I believe the metal pipes and fittings had a tendency to shear off where they connected to the condenser? Not sure if anyone can confirm this actually happening?

  1. I’ve seen reports on SELOC of 2010 cars having the same issue. The fix is to fit the aftermarket rubber/flexible pipes (which are from lotus!)

My understanding is that the pipes corrode within the sills. The condenser issue might be separate, I’m hoping mine is ok there and changing the sill pipes will cure it as I don’t want to have to take the front clam off - might as well then do all the other ‘fixes’ but I haven’t really got the funds!

It’s all been done, but the problem now is that the pipe which connects the replacement sill pipes to the connector also needs changing and it’s on back order at the factory who have no idea of when it’s going to come in - they said last Friday but (of course) it didn’t arrive!

Check the pump is working which I think you can see by removing the OS side pod. Also check fuse which is under the dash.

I thought ther shear fault was an S1 Exige problem, not the Toyota cars?

Yes the sill pipe will corrode if it is not the later rubber coated type. IIRC my 111R pipes were replaced after suffering this problem in 2007 (the car was new 2004).

Your 2007 NA may have just missed the factory mod when new

Tim you are probably right, its prob just on S1’s, I might have misheard. Is there an easy way of getting to see these pipes in the sill. Is it just a case of taking off the sill cover to reveal them?

Thanks, I’ll check this first.

Fairly sure you’ll need to remove the dash at one end and the polystyrene lump at the other. I wouldn’t bother, you’ll know if it’s leaking, it’ll get everywhere. It’s nasty luminous stuff!

Sorry no repair hints from me I just booked mine in the dealers

Mine is due in for a repair too. Probably the sill pipes as it’s been re gassed twice. Could be Dave’s new Maserati condenser he sold me, but we’ll see when in bits.

Ten quid for a can of diy gas used to rectify mine for a year at a time
