AA Breakdown Repair Cover

Just got a renewal notice for the above and I’m wondering whether to continue with it.
I recently had a breakdown on another car covered by Warranty Direct and was very disappointed with the pay-out. I was paying 270 a year for that and was dismayed to find that pay-outs reduce on a sliding scale according to mileage of the car.
So, I’m suspicious as to the value of any of these insurances.
Any thoughts on the AA (at 104 a year), given that the maximum payable for any one breakdown is 500 (minus the now increased 35 excess), although five breakdowns are allowed!
When I had a breakdown a few months ago with the Exige I was picked up and transported by the AA under my standard roadside cover but did not bother to make a claim under the breakdown policy as the bill for repair was reasonably modest.

Breakdown Insurance is a waste of money IMHO , just another revenue stream for Insurance companies, roadside cover from the RAC/ AA is always worth having , and always will be

yeah and most of them wont cover diagnosis, so you have to pay the hours to find that a 30 part has failed.

Hi Steve

I took out an insurance type cover few months ago but this only covers getting you and the car back home. I didnt fancy pushing the car back from Angelsey

Can’t comment on if it is any good but I checked out a few and the one I chose had good user reports.

Cover for me in any car too.

Sounds too good to be true. Maybe it is. I will look out the details as have copies of them in all cars just in case.

The repair cover is ok but you need to be careful.

It only covers repairs where you have broken down and then get subsequently towed etc into the dealer. If you drive it in for repairs … Not covered !

I had one years ago and tried to claim when my ecu fried it’s brains 4 miles from nick whale. I limped to the dealer rather than take the risk and sit on the side of the motorway. I got a quote for repair which was a new ecu. AA would not pay as I wasn’t towed in - so told them to go forth, bought a second hand one for c50 plugged it in. Problem sorted. AA policy was a waste of money for me.

Mine only covers for taking the car home if breaks down Con. You can either ring the recovery number and they sort or arrange your own recovery and claim back the cost.

It didn’t cost a lot and I just wanted piece of mind if I broke down.

I think you can get an extended warranty type upgrade to the breakdown as well Steve which is what I bought wasn’t much money so thought I’d try it

As you can see from the above I would have been better using the money to wipe my you know what

I bought breakdown repair in early, nervous, days of ownership. I was thinking it might be help in case of catastrophic failure. Think it might be worth hanging on to it for just 100. Thanks for all your comments chaps
