Well done Sean and JSRacing - two meetings into the season and twice on the top step Lights to flag victory in the rather eventful third race of the weekend.
Really gutted for Randy - having read the blog and seen the Europa in component form a couple of times to see it involved in a big off and in a real mess was not good. First lap on race2 on the run up to Druid’s someone missed a gear or something and it got very crowded at the front - Chris was powering up the outside and could not have even seen the car that picked him up forcing him into the barrier all the way up to Druid’s
Before the off it really did look the business and now with the Hofmann’s livery would not have looked out of place on the BGT grid. I passed Duncan towing it home on the M25, a very sorry sight Good luck getting it sorted Chris, at least nobody was hurt.
Jamie was also putting in some storming drives along with Ben Pitch. Steve Williams lost it into Paddock Hill right next to where I was standing - my heart was in my mouth as they attempted to move the car under waved yellows - scary stuff.
No photos I’m afraid as Paul had made other arrangements. I took the opportunity to induct my two year old into motorsport and he had a great day!
Can only agree, was a great day out and to see the state of Randy’s car was pretty awful. We did’nt see the actual incident as we were on the South Bank watching at Graham Hill bend, but saw the replay on the big screen, just seemed he got caught up in it and just had nowhere to go.
Chris Baker did well in the dayglo No 12 S1, he was black flagged after a coming together which left his right front side bodywork in tatters, but made the final race to finish 9th.
First time I had seen the A1GP circus and was mightly impressed, well done to Team Ireland on the 2 wins and the overall championship.
Another 2 big incidents caused the GT race to be red flagged, a big off involving a Corvette and another very big off involving a Gallardo a couple of laps later (in exactly the same place, no one hurt.
So after a day of strong winds and at times, hot sun - has left me a bit ‘Swan Vesta’ like.
Pete, what happened to the Gallardo? How did it happen and what was left? [/quote]
Not sure, we saw it on the big screen, the Viper just seemed to head for the armco (for no apparent reason) and the Gallardo exited the same right hander appearing to go onto the grass, it kicked round and went straight into said armco, ending up nudging the Viper.
The commentary guys mentioned something about ‘Mr fox’ and earlier we saw a 959 with the same reg plate parked up amongst the GT cars.
