I am interested how they compare to A048s for mixed track/road use (more road biased). They seem to be more expensive, so I am wondering if they are worth extra premium over A048s? I have only ever used A048s, but am thinking about trying them out. Any comments gratefully received.
Slightly better in the wet, get destroyed quicker in the dry and easier to overheat. I find their break away more progress but I seem to recall Uldis thinks the reverse.
I agree, the 39s were awesome for me. The diff between the 48s and 39s is only visible on track and even then its not that big a difference. BUT 48s are better and it is now the only tyre I will be fitting to my car … stay away from T1Rs they are really bad for track work.
Interesting. I am quite happy with the 48s, but find them rather “snappy” on damp/wet surface (ie in my experience they loose grip instantantly). I was hoping that the 39s would be more progressive.
039 is a significantly different tyre, road compound, much less sidewall strength. It’s more of a road tyre than a track tyre, but interestingly enough it is List 1B.
I have used it as a racing wet as the 006 is not a listed tyre, but the characteristics are so different to the 048 that I find then only of any use in piling rain - even in fairly constant drizzle I would stick with 048s at a higher pressure (24/24 instead of the 20/18 cold pressures) and simply drift it.
