A quandary, I need help.....

Nobody has asked any details about this S1 you’ve found? Is it for sale on the open market? Someone from here?

Not anyone from here, not really in a sharing mood I don’t want anyone to go steal it from under me
It is for sale on the open market though, I wonder if anyone can guess which car?

I was awaiting this post! You’ve got ants in your pants Ade.
You’ve done a great job with your car, but realistically you’ve taken it as far as you can go. If you sell it, which if you’re honest, you’ve already decided to do, then bits off and back to OEM is the way. I agree with Moonin about the most affordable way achieve the performance you crave but also respect your choosiness. Funny lot you Essex caravan owners.

Easy, you did not have to go far to look at it huh

Maybe

To be honest I’m not convinced I have chosen to sell, I do in some ways agree my car might be at the end of it’s development. I am starting to feel the best way is back to standard (or as close as I can get, then sell it next april if I am going to. Still not really sure what to do…

Hello sailor

As above would suggest getting as close back to standard as you can, and selling the bits on if you need to maximise the return.

Its going to be a tough/impossible to get that sort of money for the car as it is now. I think for most people that want a modified car a big part of it is deciding on the mods themselves and evolving the car over time. Not many will go for a turn key modified car, unless they perceive it as a bargain, and something that gets them part way to their goals.

If you commit to selling, then might be worth stripping bits now to allow people to use for their winter projects, then sell the car in the spring, when hopefully the market hardens again.

If I were you mate I would break it and sell the bits to get maximum return, I think at the price your asking chances are I will have my vantage before you sell it.
My honest opinion is it’s a £28k car at absolute best in its current form, mods especially aftermarket count for very little on the used market and your car will have very limited appeal as it’s so highly modified.
As a standard car you will probably get £22 - £23k for yours and the best hope for the mods would be to sell them separate even then would you get £5-£6k for them?

Ade mate!

That is a lovely S1 you have your eyes on! :sunglasses:

If I pass on my experiences…

  1. My first Lotus (before registering on here!) was a Bell and Colville 160… a MINTER! My first mistake was selling that, my second was not getting the Edwards Boyz to drop a Honda in it! If I had done that, then…

2: I would still have bought my first Exige S1!!! TOTALLY standard. IMHO, that is where the true ‘classic’ appeal of the S1 is!

3: Should never have sold that car!!! :frowning:

4: Got my Exige S2… great car, especially after the various mods. But when I then drove HT67 (Harvey’s) S1 around Spa on the same day, I realised that the S2 was never replace that amazing lightness feeling of my S1!!! So, (domestic pressures aside…!!!) I sold that!

5: So pleased to have found ‘Shrek’! Just great driving an S1 again, especially another OEM ‘Minter’ (aside from the colour… but hey, £2.5K and it would be back to OEM Laser Blue!!!). Aside from the bigger brake rotors and Nitrons, it is and will remain OEM. And I have kept the LSS if that ever needs to go back on as a true ‘classic’ :sunglasses:

6: I think your S2 is a amazing specced car… it drives amazing too! But, take off all the bits mate and sell it as ‘standard’. I don’t think you will get a bite at £ 35k as it is… (I hope you do of course!!) But all the bits off the car will then sell very well and you will also get a good OEM price for it then.

7: BUY that S1 now! Before it goes… I think the spec and look is very ‘you’ (CF!!! ) and the VHPD work is great! Sure, pop a Honda in it but keep the VHPD !!!

8: My dream garage would be ‘Shrek’ and a Honda’d S1 Exige like Ben’s or Robs. There is NO doubt that that conversion is totally suited to the S1 Exige… boy I wonder how many they would have sold if the Honda had been in from the factory!!! :open_mouth:

Good luck mate… and see you at Anglesey next year!

I would agree with others Ade sell as standard and sell the mods separately.

I would guess the price will scare off peeps so why not put POA which will hopefully get the phone ringing.

Have a keen price you can sell as totally standard and of course the £35k as is now and prospective buyer can pick what they would like to keep of the mods which you can negotiate on.

As usual I can rely on Exiges for a sensible head and not to make a spectacular mistake
I am going to try to purchase the S1 and can just about manage it without selling my car (Jacqui approval still required but it looks good), finding somewhere to store it is more of a challenge currently!
As for selling my car, if it sells as is it does, if it doesn’t I am going to start pricing up all the parts 2nd hand and then decide how best to go about getting it back to standard to be sold next year.
You never know it might still not work out financially what I want to do if the parts don’t sell as well as I hope, it is a tough thing to price up parts to what you think people may pay to buy them.

It does just depend on if someone wants a car like mine or not, there is certainly more that can be done modding it, just not stuff I want to do, I just can’t bring myself to getting a dremmel to it.

That S1 is nice if is the one with the carbon bits

GREAT!

Ade mate… ask yourself how you would feel later today if you called and the car had been SOLD!!! :astonished:

Go and BUY IT NOW FFS!!!

It is SO you dude! :sunglasses:

‘Worry’ about the S2 bits dilemma tomorrow!

I take it you have actually taken the S1 for a drive!!! Rev the nuts off the VHPD ok… they only come alive above 5,500 or so up to 7800 RPM! It should be smooooooth and make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up… (and other things too!!! )

Looking fwd to reading the ‘bought it’ post ok!!!

KAPISH! :arrow_right:

I would:

  1. Buy that car
  2. Leave it as it
  3. Trailer it to track days to minimise unnecessary mileage (really paid off on my current car)
  4. Spend the money on track days and tuition rather than expensive mods
  5. Return S2 to std. as practical
  6. Sell the parts off the S2

Pete & Damon are right mate, if you have the folding get it bought now.

Yup the overwhelming consensus seems to be buy it Ade and dispose of your S2 in whatever way gives the greatest return.

You seem to have decided you want a pukka S1 Exige and once you’ve secured one I suggest you pick one or more options from below :

  • Keep it asbsolutely boggo standard
Put a Honda or Audi in it
Cut in half down the middle and make it a foot wider
Give it 600bhp and a massive aero package
Turn it into a no holds-barred racecar
Rebody it into an icecream van

Basically do whatever puts a smile on your face. If you still own it when a mint standard S1 is is worth £50k then I’m guessing you won’t feel like it owes you anything anyway…

#2 haha , Ade has carbonitis … bad !

bagsey a seat and the rear handbrake + rotors
