Or just put the original silencer back on
Well yeah, there is that. I have two of them knocking around.
it holds together well sean, mines done around 15 trackdays with no issue. The vband joining the pipes is solid and the large band around the primary silencer just offers additional support to take the shearing force off the vband.
it’s a clever setup for trackdays, ideal for anyone wanting something fruity on the road but still usable on track.
Looks good but as above doesn’t it place additional load back on the decat pipe? Tendency to rotate the original silencer and hence put extra strain on the decat welds?
The greater problem actually comes from twisting the other direction from the engine, even with the stiff engine mounts I have the inside of my old box was fractured due to twisting motion. This was even with a really big flexi section in the section around where a cat would be if I had one. The extra weight still appears to be less than the original silencer so I am not that worried.
Will have to see how it performs on a quite day somewhere after Anglesey
The exhaust is trapped between the motor/transmission and those rigid kit-car exhaust mounts - not good.
The early Evora mounts have a lot more “give” and I’m looking at adapting them for the Elise/Exige installs. For MY2012 and Evora S models, they’ve actually stiffened them by increasing the hanger rod diameter! That motor moves around a lot too but they need to address that rather than using rigid exhaust mounts.
I’m with you there Jim, the exhaust mounts are stupidly stiff.
Fair play if it all stays together though, can’t argue with that.
I’ve always wondered about adding some washers and longer bolts to allow the rubber mounts some movement between the chassis and mount bracket plates.
