I’ve got a big list of things I still want to do to my car, but these are tasks I’ve managed to finish recently, so I thought I’d post a few piccies.
Firstly, making a proper front splitter to even things up with the motorpsort rear wing. I would have just bolted on one of those ready-made plastic ones, however they’re a bit flappy at high speeds. I’ve made this with 10mm marine ply which I hope will prove strong enough. It goes right back past the wishbone line and is secured with about 15 bolts very securely. A friend made the fairly basic front bracket/bolt for the supports, which bolts through the steel tube above the tow eye. It’s tough and I (85kg’s) can stand on the front of it.
Another little project was to try and give the air filter some additional fresh air. So I have used a dremmel to enlarge the roof scoop and then made a new mesh grill for it. It’s now about twice the size. Then, a friend has made a perculiar looking ally contraption which fixes to the original engine cover hinge bolts. It leads to three tubes that I have used to channel air to the filter and charger.
Lastly was just a small job which I thought was worth doing as the car is now producing 330bhp at the hubs. This was to remove the standard air filter flexible tubing and to replace it with some ally pipe and samco hose. This is much smoother internally and doesn’t deform or get as hot. Hopefully, the engine is now breathing to its preferred level.
Most importantly, I’ve got real enjoyment out of doing all this stuff myself. Right, I’ll stop boring you all to death now.
Mate - I’m in urgent discussions with my Integrity Manager at work to see if I can get mine x-rayed, ultrasound tested or some other high tech method before I know it is safe to take out of the garage again
Can’t really get a decent underside shot but here are a few. Did Brands yesterday and it showed no signs of coming off, even with a 100mph excursion onto the bumpy grass. I did graze it going into a petrol station on the way home though.
Looks like the front ones are into the original Splitter floor and the rear ones are just where the original splitter bolts go to the chassis …
Yep, that’s basically what I’ve done.
However, that sheet of ally with the holes in, which is normally used to allow hot air out from the original oil cooler and which the original splitter mounts to. Well I’ve turned that the other way up and firmly attached it to the crash structure with threaded bar. This gives my new splitter something rock solid to attach to.
