A favour if you please

Hi all.

Am going to be getting a miniature, stick-on plate made up for the front of my S1 when it arrives. I’d like to have a chat to some of the signmakers who do this sort of thing, bt first I’ll need to figure out the exact space I’ve got to work with, which is kinda hard when you don’t have a car here to measure.

Is there anyone out there with an S1 that’s got no front plate on that could post up some detail shots of the front of the car, specifically just below the intake at the front showing how much room there is on the clam/splitter? Just any decent photos will do, although if there’s something I can scale off (like a ruler in-shot or something, then that’d be fantatic.

No hurry, as I don’t have to have this done until the car arrives, but it might help me get the ball rolling

Cheers,

George.

Feck all space there. My plate is 80mm high. The car is at work so I will take more measurements tomorrow. Small plates are illegal here

Thanks for that Dave, this gives me some idea as a start.

Small plates are illegal here too, but having said that if you don’t take the piss then (with Elises) they don’t seem to mind. My Elise has had a small plate for 9 years and has never been pulled up on it once.

My plates arrived for it today so the next parcel I’m waiting for is a large floaty thing with a Lotus on-board

OhhhBehavvvveeeeeeeeeee, very austin powers

I can understand you getting excited waiting for your boat to come in . . . but SEXIGE?
Well, really!

Hey, well I really wanted “EXIGE” but that was gone, and there wasn’t really any other variations that work (We’re restricted to 6 characters here) and I thought it fitted the car rather well.

As has been said… VERY Austin Powers

SEXIGE - a bit OTT perhaps. What about EXIGE 1?

OTT but what the hell - made me smile.

I could have but then thought “naaaah”

As Stevegreen said, it made him smile, mademe smile too

It’s not a subtle car, so why get it a subtle plate?

Is it true in NZ you dont have to pay insurance on a car instead its funded through the govnt by taxes?.

Yes and no.

We still have to pay insurance, yes. Although it’s non-compulsary so 15 year old kids can drive around in 350bhp Mitsu Evos and it’s all above board, they’re not required to have insurance

Our car insurance only covers property damage. The government scheme you refer to is for PERSONAL INJURY and is covered by a govt department called ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation).

Now, the ACC will cover you in the event of any injury, on the road, playing sport, injured at work, falling off a cliff or whatever. They fund your recuperation costs as well as paying you a salary should your injury keep you from work (Normally this salary is 80% of your regular earnings)

What ACC does is effectively stop people being able to sue for damages like they can in the UK. If someone rins me over in their car and I’m paralysed, I can’t sue them for my injury or the effects thereof, but ACC will look after me in the manner mentioned above.

Overall it’s a bit of a crap system and it’s abused widely

The flipside is that it makes car insurance pretty cheap (about 1/3 that in the UK) as the liability to the insurance companies is much lowered.

But yes, Insurance SHOULD be compulsary here, too many young blokes in insanely over-modded cars.

Guilty as charged then!

I WISH I could lay claim to being young still Rob!
