So, these rods of plastic are purpose sold fr that.
Where can I find them?
Uldis - look Here - they have a downloadable booklet about techniques as well
Thanks Andy, very interesting, very expensive too!
Mmmm - I thought about a hotair gun or small pencil blowtorch and some plastic rod from a hobby shop … cheap as chips … almost …
You might find a specialist car bumper repairer that will do it for you … just a thought …
Alright guys, I fit the RS14s tomorrow . I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how much better the braking will be ?

Only you will be able to answer that, but you will certainly feel an improvement in everyday use! The most noticeable difference will be whilst on track, at somewhere like Donington or Oulton.
Have you got braided brake hoses too? If not, make that your next upgrade, along with racing fluid such as Castrol SRF.
Hope to see you at the Watermillock next Weds
Oh , I was expecting everyone to say something like ’ … massive difference !!’ because the brakes at the moment are really, really, sh!te (compared to my other car).
Pesky, I will be there next weds. Can you source a exiges.com sun strip for me ? how much ?
David
Brakes - I’m sure you won’t be dissappointed
Sunstrip - no probs - 17 (usually + 1 p&p)
Shite, hmmmm, let’s see.
I think my brakes are the muts nuts , they have an immediate feel to them, almost no travel and zero sponginess. Braking force equals stopping power, as opposed to pedal travel equalling stopping power. They’re very linear and have zero hysteresis.
My wife thinks they’re crap, doesn’t like them because they’re too hard, she likes the vaccuum assisted brake feeling that other cars have… go figure.
But you can hardly count her a sports driver (although I remember when racing her on two Punto’s at the stop lights in Italy she would often beat me).
OTOH I had a discussion once with an Elise owner over at the BBS about the brakes, he hated the feeling that I like and went out and fit some pad buffers behind the plate, to add some sponginess and get rid of that “inmmediate” feel.
Go figure.
So, you tell us what you like about them. Do you have braided lines? (my first mod, at the first service)
I have no problem with the pedal or the feel , its the outright stopping power I dont like . For a car that weighs next to nothing I would have expected the braking to be a match for the acceleration and cornering capabilities.
Surely I am not the first person to say the brakes are a load of crap … am I ?

If you’re talking about the standard factory fitted pads (Brembo), you’re absolutely right! That’s why everyone on this bbs, who does trackdays, binned them ages ago.
Muts Nuts Discs and Green stuff pads works for me on the road. Bembo pads were not very good for me - it was more apparent after I changed.
Green stuff pads have the very big advantage of being largely dust free - saves on cleaning time.
Oh and MutsNuts discs match A048 tyres better if thats important to you…
Mine went after 1800 miles of slow road driving, pads, disks and all changed on warranty.
I told them I didn’t want them to replace with the same stuff, but they said the warranty would be void if they put anything else.
They ended up the same, so I said… sod the warranty!, there’s nothing I can do to the brakes to make them worse.
Now they work ok.
Basically the pads are made of cheese, the disks are an afterthought and there is no cooling.
And then, why do the pads come stock with a buffering pad behind? This is one thing I really don’t understand, as they only serve to make the brakes feel spongy!. I can see no use at all for them (don’t put them back on yours)
Thats a relief …
My car has covered 12000 road miles by 2 previous owners and 2000 miles by me. It is still on A039 (will be changed after the trackday) and (I hope ) the standard disks/fluid/hoses/pads. All I want from the new pads is more stopping power .
So, if all is in order and I am on the original pads, what I am experiencing is normal. good.
