5500 MISFIRE

I know this has been well covered in the past

But last couple of times been out - engine revved up towards the limit then later without notice 5500 rev limiter kicked in, then after a few miles it was back to normal??

Checked usual suspects, leaking intake hoses and rear wheel speed sensors, etc??

Gets really annoying as when you put the foot down you donā€™t know if rev limiter will kick inā€¦

Still running original ECUā€¦

Simon, check wiring as it passes through rear bulkhead to fuses/relays behind seats. Wires can become frayed causing intermittant ā€œshortingā€ which then causes 5500rpm limiter to kick in. Myself/Mhaney/others had same problem some years ago.

Good luck.

PS Is Phil bringing 211 to Anglesey? I really hope so :sunglasses:

Cheers for the info Rob - I will check this out when I get the olā€™ girl (not Tina  ) up and running - hopefully this w.e.

Phil may have other priorities at the mo

I personally think some of it is Cobra alarm related, first 7yrs of ownership I had intermittent 5500 misfire, since I binned the alarm 4yrs ago and many thousand miles later, no misfire at all but I know many owners think itā€™s bollox

Take a few photos and let us know if you find anything please

I think this particular problem was first discussed on exiges.com in January 2001. Youā€™d think it wouldhave been eliminated by nowā€¦

ā€¦Itā€™s always either the wheel sensor or the bulkhead.

I tried all the suggestionsā€¦ you want to here it ?

replace the crankshaft sensor , i had exactly the same problem, at 5500ā€¦ Ā£15 fix from ebay and rover k series sensor will do it and 20 mins labourā€¦
