46mm Nitrons or not?

I have the chance to get some 46mm Track day pro Nitrons.
Currently I have the standard Track day pro ones I reckon the upgrade will cost me under 500 but will I notice the extra investment?
I know all about how it is supposed to be better control and all that but I struggle to notice one click more or less on the current shocks?
Thoughts?

Are you going racing?

Thought not, so spend your money on a nice handbag & shoes for Jackie (seriously, dude!)

DT…and you know what that stands for!!

DO IT ADE!!!

I ‘upgraded’ to the 46mm NTR’s when I had my S2 Exige. They were really a noticeable benefit… the damping is just so much better with all that extra surface area and fluid volume. I think you will find the adjustments you make will be more noticeable too!

Nitron have been refining the 46mm damper for some time now as I think they want to offer this as a really good ‘upgrade’ for all those on 40mm dampers. I have just had the latest iteration fitted to my S1, in fact Donny last week was the first day out for them! They were noticeably better than the ones I had fitted to my S2 18 months ago. It is clear that some serious development has been going on with these by Nitron.

That seems like a bargain upgrade to me (Are these Chris’s old ones?) If so, it may be also worth getting Nitron to apply the latest upgrade to these… but in any event you will find them better that the 40mm’s.

All IMHO of course!!!

no not Chris’s ones, I just can’t make my mind up only really just got my new ones this year and they have only had 5 outings, going to ponder overnight and speak to nitron tomorrow.
Found out these have softer springs on than my current setup which worries me a little as well

got 46s on mine, they’re TDP spec and I was surprised how compliant they were but car is so much more planted yet also manages better turn in…

but thats all compared to still adj billies

Why not use my try before you buy offer?

I asked Chris Randall on the subject and he said at the moment he’d recommend sticking with the older Nitrons. the 46mm ones still have a way to go in development to better the performance of the smaller ones… definitely not worth upgrading yet… I’d wait a year or two until the bigger Nitrons have had some more development.

Nitron are continually update specs of there dampers and the 46MM ones are even better now, Give them acall and they will happily tell you all about it!
Due to all the myths going around about 40’s being better than 46’s I decided to do the Try a set before you buy offer.
Every person that has tried a set of 46mm dampers had not returned them…

how about ohlins?46mm?

Hi George!

How is all down-under mate!

Nitron have just completed some serious development on the 46mm dampers. Mark, one of the senior development engineers has spent the last month just focused solely on this task and they were fitted to my car last week. Indeed, following Donny last week and some pretty extensive ‘fast road’ driving, I passed on my feedback to them and they have just spent another week getting everything spot on!

They are a big step forward from the previous iteration and as Muu mentioned, the car just feels so well planted. So, little point in waiting ‘another couple of years’ as they are ready to go, fully sorted now!!! I am going to ask Mark to give me some technical information about what they have done during this development and will pop a new post up on this.

I am VERY pleased with mine, especially having been so happy with the latest 40mm NTR’s I had on my S2! So, Ade mate, you would not be disappointed in any way! Why not take Dave up on his offer!!!

Cheers,

Pete

Looking more sensibly about this, the ones I have been offered are not quite cheap enough to make be buy them 2nd hand, I think I might do better speccing my own set and then selling on my nearly new 40mm set. I suspect there won’t be a huge difference in price.

It’s where it’s at :sunglasses:

Or buy my 46mm Ohlins from my S2 and have the best of the best

Wouldnt they need resetting with softer springs?

No, why do you say that Dave?

They are better than standard dampers on the road and with a twist of the knob, are as good as you would ever want on a track day car.

And they are gold and shiny!!!
