I have been trying to get some useful information from LCUSA but to no avail, so I’m hoping some of you can help. I searched through previous threads but I could find anything difinitive. I though there was a brake upgrade kit that replaced the front caliper with 4 piston units. I would like to add more effective braking to the front without compromising the ABS. So, does one exist? If so does it fit within stock wheels and who should I contact?
I have just had the final tweaks done to a FF275 install, so I will need more brakes! Now I’m impatiently waiting for the next track day
I took a few pics yesterday now I just need to post em.
Lotus sell them (have no Part# at hand, sorry). The new kit also fit with the ultra light alloys (the ones that come with the US sport pack, I think). See picture:
Is there any point changing the calipers ? Isn’t the problem in that too much heat is generated.
Bigger calipers would be able generate even more heat due to higher possible braking forces and also ‘insulated’ the disc due to it’s physically bigger size wrapped around the disc, reducing the exposed area of the disc. Hence making the situation even worse without changing something else.
On Jamie’s Bermani S2 he kept the original calipers and opted for bigger discs, better pads which handle higher temps before fade, ducting and 240R wheels to obtain better cooling. Also not forgetting high grade brake fluid with an increased boiling point.
But I must be missing something too, since 4 pots are a common upgrade path, can someone explain why it helps or is it just the idea and or looks that appeals of the 4 pot ?
