fortunately not a big deal! just where a bit of the block had been left exposed.
was thinking of slapping a bit of hammerite on it, but have been told i should use some specialist ‘high temperature’ paint given how hot it will get.
has anyone else painted their rusty bit (presuming that bit rusts on all S2’s) and if so what paint did you use?

Other than being part of the alternator mounting.
It’s a typical situation where a mounting surface is used on one car and not another.
A small tin of black engine paint would do the job.
Mine is exactly the same and I’m not bothered.
Sand paper + hammerite then.
And it’ll be like new.
But yes, like above mentioned, why worry?
