Doubt you could get them easily road registered now. In UK would need SVA test, & emissions would be a major hurdle - don’t forget that was a big problem Lotus had with the December 2001 deadline for emission reduction (they ended up registering cars which had not been sold). Aren’t French rules even stricter now?
I might be entirely wrong here, but would they need an SVA test as the S1 has existing Type Approval? Also, wouldn’t emissions be the same as for any other S1? (Yeah okay, emissions are always a problem for the S1, but you know what I mean, lol!).
S1 Exiges had to be registered before 31st December 2001 to meet the required “approval”, although iirc that wasn’t “Type Approval” in the normal sense. The factory had a number of unsold Exiges approaching that deadline & registered the cars themselves.I’m pretty sure that S1 Exiges were actually SVA’d, albeit in bulk batches.
I’m sure 83man’s memory will be better than mine though!
Registering imports is based on age, so they only have to qualify for the correct emissions at the time of original build, this is why we get so many Japanese and Yank tank over here So they should be fine
Date of construction should suffice, if there’s no registration available? So a CoC would be fine to qualify them and then allow an age-related registration here in the UK.
Common sense would support that, but if it is the case, why did Lotus HAVE to register unsold cars before 31/12/2001 as a result of the emission reduction laws? Again, from distant memory, that date was actually an extension of 12 months from the intended date.
Mr P I think you are right someone needs to step up to the plate to test the theory, sadly I am currently financially embarrassed so am unable to take up the challenge
