280RR SC

Here are some pics of the 280RR SC kit.

Might be a poor photo but the welding on the intake manifold looks a bit rough

Did think that but it is the first one

I was going to ask if it was a prototype…in a production model I don’t see why this wouldn’t be folded rather than welded on all sides.

Hope to see the production model soon

looking at the other picture the end cap on the supercharger chamber looks very crude as well… bit too homemade? Will be interesting to hear about reliability as at that power lotus recommends a rebuild after 30 hours racing… so even road use and the odd track day about 150 hours? or 4500 miles? But if you think about it a peak power the supercharger must be eating about 40hp so its actually producing 320 hp, 60% more than standard… that a lot without doing anything to the bottom end?? or am I just over cautious?

Done a whole load of digging. The Yota engine in Celicas is happy to hit 300hp without probs. The main issue is cooling and oil management.

That inlet manifold does look a bit like something knocked up in a school metal-working class, but surely the production one will be neater. I do like the location of he intercooler though - I would think it will get just as much if not more air flow there than from the roof vent, and retaining some rear vis has to be a big plus.

Just thinking out loud, but if they are getting these type of problems with a front engined car then surely the Exige will suffer more due to the fact the engine is not getting as much airflow and also having longer runs with the oil and coolant pipes?? Or am I talking shite here??

Agreed, it all looks like it has come out of a high school metal workshop. If it were my development, I certainly wouldn’t be posting pics of it like that, not when I will be expecting people to spend 7.5k on one!! Ok so its the prototype but do we really need to see it at this stage?? Very off putting imho. All we really need to know at this point of it’s development is if it works or not and how reliable is it going to be.

My guess is that whoever has made the intercooler has also made the rest of the tackle to go with it from what he has had lying around the shop .

Also will not suffer from heat soke as will have own fan and be sealed off from engine bay.

Guess we will see soon enough if heat will be a prob

Won’t the longer runs mean that there is greater capacity in each system and therefore a larger ability to cool?

So do you have a date yet for the install Jamie? Looking forward to seeing what the final result is like.

Have they managed to get past the ECU security and are they changing the cam swop point like the 240?

Yes they have now found a way to program the ECU in real time massive brake through.
They are promising figures soon

Had it confirmed, it is the mule, the production ones will be all fancy and powder coated in black.

at the risk of sounding negative…again…won’t black just make it act as a heatsink - better it was shiny and much better it was insulated?

You’ll have to get one of those roof scoops

Already on my list

Any update yet re availability and pricing in the UK? The Hangar 111 site still says ‘Supercharger Kits available from January 2005’ (sic)

Cheers
Rob

I am the 1st to get it and its looking like May
I am taking this as a good sign that they are doing a thorough job

Best bet beyond that is drop Greg at Hanger 111 a line he can put you on his contact list, he maybe able to give you a guestimate but think he really wants to wait till the final spec is nailed down and the dynos and test miles done.

Gutted It wont be on the car for Donnie
