Anything to do with uprating suspension can help at lot, is it cheap, no it isn’t
I wouldn’t bother with the 260 upgrade first, spend the money on brakes and suspension. There’s not much in it down the straights between a 220 and a 260.
That’s exactly my point!
2k for 40 Bhp!!?!
It may be a factory upgrade but it’s not good value for money
Are you kidding? It costs about 6k to get from 260 - 300bhp, plus have you ever tried tuning NA?
The injectors on a 220 are maxed out so injectors alone are 450, then there is a fuel pump and an ecu to pay for.
I would be interested to see Dan make 280bhp from a stock 240 car using standard pulley and its not ideal without a fuel pump anyway.
We’re not on about NA tuning.
My point is, paying Lotus factory prices for an extra 40 Bhp is bloody expensive…just my opinion.
Tuning can quickly turn into a pointless money pit. I should know, I’ve owned a Mitsubishi Evo IX
If I was going to remap, I would hold on till the syvecs kit hits the streets and get a drive in one. You are quite lucky options wise.
Lotus/CN 260 kit ( OEM can only be a positive)
Essex/ Autosport north ( problem is you are tied to them for any further work)
JSR/ Syvecs ( fantastic ecu and has far more options for further tuning, you are not tied to one mapper either)
Ok then what about handling up grade ha,

No we’re not but the point is its all relative, to get 40bhp from an na car would cost way more than 2k.
My car is currently 260bhp but if I want another 40bhp I reckon it’s going to cost between 4k-6k closer to 6k.
The CN kit is oem and fully removable as you keep all of your old parts which means its worth more come re sale on or off the car, you could get the same power for slightly less (not much) but that kit will probably loose value off the car.
Anyway starting with a stock 240 so already having injectors i’d be very surprised to see a real 280bhp with just a re map and I’d be worried about the fuel pump, so in short tuning a lotus does not come cheap.
Turning up the wick on a turbo barge is child’s play by comparison so initially you get big gains for very little.
If it was my money…
Injectors - 300 ish + fit myself
Fuel pump - 150 from Hangar111 (I’ve never fitted one)
Essex / ASN remap - 850
= 250 Bhp @ wheels for around 1300 +
Big saving over the factory upgrade I reckon.

Come on, apples with apples…
Fitting bits yourself is hardly a fair comparison and not everyone can do it, plus at 300 they are not exactly like for like injectors. Still everyone is different, but when spending the best part of 40k on a car IMHO there is no point scraping for a couple of hundred quid (realistic difference with fitting) and many would prefer to keep the car oem as most aftermarket mods actually reduce the value of a car come selling up time.
Plus as I pointed out I still have all my old bits to sell.
P.s. you will not see any thing more than a shave over 240 at the hubs from the mods you stated.
Boothy
Fair point on the 240 Bhp figure Boothy. The 250 I mentioned includes an exhaust too, I forgot that bit.
Peace.
I thought I’d pull rank and mention suspension!
First off body roll doesn’t mean the handling is off, as long as its gripping well while rolling around then that’s ok.
I know youre probably after specifics but just to generalise for a moment, as far as what you can buy to affect the handling you’ve got wishbone bushes - from standard up to spherical bearings. Anti roll bars of various stiffness’ and adjustability and then theres springs and dampers which will start a whole new big bun fight!
Boothy my boy…
Drive yer motor to Dudlaay with 500 quid for injectors ,pump and pulley and I guarantee you will drive back to Bolton with >300 bhp …
What I can’t guarantee is that your 215 lb/ft of torque won’t strip your 3rd gear tho
That sounds good jfk,not the 3rd gear bit though.
That’s the reality tho…
Turn up tne boost and look for a new gearbox …
Wish it could be avoided …
