“Angelo Lazaris will present the 2008 Lotus Exige GT3 this week-end at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix. Based on the European race car that competed in the FIA GT3 category, this is the worlds fastest Lotus, fitted with extreme aerodynamic aids and a highly developed 1.8-litre engine based on the same unit in the Exige S road car…”
This is from a new review on 2008 Lotus Exige GT3, from Top Speed. It includes info on the design, safety and performance of the model, as well as other features. Also available is a video and wallpaper / photo gallery.
The mesh (& ducts behind the rear wheels) is to aid the aerodynamics, not for cooling. It needs all the help it can get, as the engine is mounted higher (ie is standard for GT3 regs) than is ideal from a handling point of view.
Because of the comparative (to that of the opposition) handling deficiency, Lotus upped the power from the 2006 spec in 2007 - hence the unreliabilty experienced in 2007, which in turn led to Cadena ditching it, & going with Aston Martin.
Hope Angelo has better luck than Cadena did, & does well in the current Aussi season.
Peter’s car has a LinkUP Honda SC. It is a stock K20A2 with SC and intercooler. Not only does it beat Porsches, it also beats Lamos…
These videos are from the racing at Clipsal 500 at the old Adelaide GP track. Peter was busy with work so Scott Bargwanna drove the car. please watch them.
Still must have work in other areas though, even a Supercharged Motorsport car should be a few secs slower than a GT3 Lambo… or is he a bit of a Schumacher!
In October last year Peter miss-shifted and buzzed his old engine to 12,000+. With 3 weeks until the 500km race at Sandown we had to find a new engine fast. Jeff (prepares the car) went to the nearest scrappie and bought an Aussie K20a2 and gearbox of unknown history and banged it in the car.
The engine is totally standard with intercooler, supercharger @ about 7psi, large LinkUP oil cooler, LinkUP race 4-2-1 over the top exhaust with Hondata ECU. The engine was not even pulled down.
Since that engine went in it has successfully competed in:
Dec 2007 - Sandown 500km GT Race
3 Feb 2008 - A1GP GT meeting Easten Creek
24 Feb 2008 - Clipsal GT meeting Adelaide
16 March 2008 - F1GP GT Meeting Melbourne
It has never missed a beat. Try doing that with a Ferrari/Lamo engine.
