Spoke with Lotus group and they could not tell me the weight of an Exige cup ?
I know a standard Exige weighs in at 875kg, but what about the cup cage - how much does this add ?
Many thanks.

lol a standard exige weighs more like 930KGs
and even more with the touring pack.
an 08 prob now weighs 1000Kgs with new dash and airbags
So where did the 875kg come from then ?
I got that figure from the Lotus Group website, mind you what do they know, they still have not got back to me with the weight question.
Has the cup had any weight removed before they added the rollcage ?
I’m starting to miss the point of the Exige cup car altogether.
Oh well
875 is some dream weight they make up, with no fuel or wheels lol.
My touring pack Exige with aircon was 875kg on half tanks at the Donnington Exiges day in 2006. That was with the lightweight forged alloys (save 10kg), quicksilver exhaust (save 6 kg), ITG induction (save 1kg) and Reverie single skin seats (save 5kg?).
All weight reductions are estimates and no doubt subject to debate

So add a full tank (+ 13kg) and the 22kg on the mods you made and we get to around 910kg - I’d say that’s pretty damn good. What model year do you have? The 06 should be heavier than a 04 or 05 given the extra sound proofing etc. On the other hand, differences in the chassis should make for the most difference in weight. Same car doesn’t necessarely give the same weight.
I’ve seen standard 05 cars with touring packs from anywhere between 915kg to 930kg (most likely full tanked).
A cup car is probably in the same ballbark as it has the cage but doesn’t have the A/C.
875kg is for a Exige (most likely MY04) without A/C and without options. As soon as you have harnesses, you have the harness bar that adds weight as well.
mine was 870kg with 3/4 fuel

What have you done to reduce the weight to 870kg? I know you have the lighter rims… what else?

Thanks! Sounds about right and is in line with what I’ll be doing next.
What breaks are you using? I’m probably going to have mine done soon and am looking into some stronger breaks (330mm) - but probably won’t end up lighter, but at least the same weight as the original ones.
Lighter battery will come too. Already shaved a lot of the exhaust on mine (probably around 10kg!) and cat. Radio’s next too. ;o) Will be keeping the rims though - don’t like the lighter rims. Do like the 240R rims though…
Just spoke with a very nice man from Lotus who informed me at the time (2005) Cup cars were built at the end of a normal production run, with various its added to the clients specification, therfore as a result of how they were ‘modified’ (after production) Lotus are not required to ‘list’ any weight of ‘any’ Cup car.
Based on the S/C version (and as a ball park figure) you take the 240 version of about 890kg and reduce it by about another 35kg to account for the S/C and you kinda end up with 855kg (ish) for the 190 Cup !
Is that clear
Anyway, the ‘man from Lotus’ was very nice and as an alternative he suggested I consider the ‘S’…
Pete… not wanting to start the debate, but if you really want light weight and something just for the track, the S1 has to be a better option !

I’m sorry, but there’s no way I buy that.
For one, you have rollbar behind the seats which are required for the 4point harnesses. Then you have the twin oil coolers which come standard in the CUP. You have the fire extinguisher. You have heavier (bigger) brakes (AFAIK) and what about the variable ohlin suspension and the heavy rollcage?
All these things aren’t included in any standard Exige which without options weighs in at 875kg. How can a CUP with all these things and only lacking A/C (15kg) and a radio be lighter?
Using the 240R doesn’t work - as the 240R doesn’t have the rollcage or the fire extinguisher and it has the lighter rims that the CUP car doesn’t have (8kg). Also, the 240R is at least 900kg in standard trim. I’ve seen it as heavy as 935kg in tests.
Not buying it.
Dave - putting it bluntly, I have put a lb or 2… and getting in and out of an S2 is hard enough !
Actually, I just checked - accoarding to Sport Auto in 2005/11, the 240R they were given weigh no less than 941kg. Take away the 35kg for the superchcharger and you’re somewhere around 905kg (which sounds more about right) and THEN you add the rollcage and the fire-extinguisher and take out the radio and the A/C to get what a CUP would weigh. My guess is somewhere around 895-910kg.
Cheers Phil

S1 Elise would be easier though mate !
