2004 dash / needle reset

Say you had the dash apart looking for a dry joint on your dash and you took off the needles. Despite your best tape marking where there were they are 500rpm out.

How does one reset the dash needles?

I have tried off / hold reset button / step 2 ignition

On / off / open door / hold reset button / step 2 ignition

Nothing seems to work. I know the button works as the odometer has reset.

Update - you just remove fuse c3 under the dash. 7.5A prior to this

I am still reading 500rpm at idle so o suspect I have placed the needle far too low, therefore out of tolerance, best strip the dash back again!

Except I think I would still have the live dash issue.
