How difficult is it to find a complete 190 engine with all plumbing and eletronics etc? TIA.
Complete, original VHPD’s seem to be pretty much thin on the ground these days.
They appear to have either gone South , or have been fitted in other cars
I believe the factory has one, maybe two unused ones for sale (won’t be cheap* though)

I think they are available from PowerTrain Products.
I have never used them so I can’t comment on them.

My ‘Lotus’ VHPD expired at 28K, so it was replaced by the dealer with a PTP engine. These are (were?) built by John Wilcox race engines nearby PTP.
Proper stuff and very well built with correct liner heights etc.
Pete.
IIRC all VHPD engines were originally built by PTP, who supplied Lotus.
I knew John Wilcox 15 years ago when I needed Cossie parts. At the time he was prototyping the Triumph bikes engines. Good chap, clean workshop.
This is good news as I have just found out they supplied my short engine in my Exige.
Are they ex Rover Power Train?
I thought it was Janspeed there were responsible for producing the VHPDs for Lotus - they used to claim the following on their website (new website & I can’t find a motorsport page):
-
OE suppliers for the Lotus 340R power-train, (348 engines built)
-
Built the Lotus Exige power-train, (600 engines built) 177bhp motor
Wonder if it was a joint effort, Steve?
I think there might have been a sub contract involved… PTP certainly developed the VHPD but I think they sub-contracted the production build to Janspeed.
