Sooooo…
Given that logic, Lets see a photo of Johnny sitting on his new rear wing then!!!
Now, now Pesky!!!
Still not right, great up to about 110 but then it starts to vibrate like the front wheels are driving over cobbles.
Pesky do you have any photos of your close up ?
Nice Mike…
Er…nope don’t think so Anyway John & Pete you’ll be first to see it March.

Think of it this way, if a splitter makes 80kg of downforce, you need it to be strong enough to stand on.
But you weigh twice as much as me, & half as much as Sean, so where does that leave the splitter?
Broken?

On the side of the track!!!

Mike
Don’t know if this is any good for your purposes?
Thats one orange car
The problem is with the shape of the S2 clam, the way it curls under at the front meaning the fixings are 6 to 8" back from the front of the splitter. Where as on the S1 the standard chin spoiler actually aides the fitting of a splitter.
So the splitter is now at my mates plastic fab shop getting stiffeners welded to it and if that does not work i will have to start cutting it down.
That took some reading, i think their aims are a bit higher than mine but some good ideas.
Thank for that.
I would suggest maybe a little bit of support from the clam at the top of the grill like a little turnbuckle type affair as you get on some rear panel eliminator kits would solve the problem? As the fixings on the underside are so far back any force on the splitter would not generate so much leverage. Just a thought. A picture might explain better:
Now i’m on to MK3, extra bits welded on for stiffness and an 1" cut off, hopefully this will be ok.
If this fails i will try the braces from the clam out to the front.
looking goooood, but am i to assume this has now cost more than 10???
Up to about 55 now, that’s if you don’t count the time i have spent on it.
Looks good. I had a go at doing something with plywood last winter but never finished it. Issue for me was supporting the points out at the front wheels. Couldn’t decide whether to cut the clam and attach to the oil cooler supports or try and fit it round the bumps.
How have you filled the recess where the old splitter attached?
I had the same dilemma but decided to cut round and it seems to work ok with it being plastic it can flex where ply could snap.
To fill the gap i just welded a 30mm strip of the same plastic on edge in a curve, it doesn’t have to be mega accurate as it doesn’t fit against anything. It does make it a lot stiffer though.
Something to aim for ???
I wounder what happens when that hits 120mph !
Here is mine from Lotuspower. Slightly less sticking out
How did this turn out? I am in the process of trying to make one out of ply but am in a bit of a dilemma as to how to fill the recess where the old splitter was.
I think I am going to just whack the ply under the old splitter, I am doing it purely for performance for the Time Attack this weekend, so will have a go at doing that tonight and see how it turns out.
Its ok now as it took a bit more messing about with the fixing points, nothing at the front fixes to anything solid so i had to make a bracket from the crash box to the clam at the point where i had put the fixings.
You dont notice any problems until you go over 100mph then if its not fixed well it breaks or badly vibrates.
good luck at the weekend.
