BACON's honda elise/exige
It's finally back in one piece!
It's one thing buying all the bits but another trying to get them to work. I've already explained the uprights, my next problem was the elise parts steering arm rod ends. They hadn't been threaded deep enough so didn't go on the steering rack far enough when I tried to set up the tracking. No problem, a trip to my friendly engineer sorted that out for free by tapping them deeper.
Next problem, the nearside driveshaft.. having been using the Martyn Tinker s1 driveshafts, trouble free, for the last few years, it seemed logical to me that I could just buy his s2 shafts and some new outer c.v joints and all would be well. WRONG!! Driver side fitted fine but when it came to putting the passenger side in it was quite obviously to long, by quite a long way. 20mm to be exact. After some to'ing and fro'ing it became clear that I was of course wrong and my engine was too far over the passenger side :tsk either way I wouldn't be getting my money back and to cure the problem I would have to buy a new engine mount off him... In the mean time I'd been in touch with a few other people who had had the same problem. I tried to find someone who could machine it to save me buying a new shaft but as it was already hardened nobody I phoned could do it.
To cut a long story short I ended up buying a driveshaft from stark automotive. Geoff very kindly sent me a tech drawing with dimensions of their shafts and it suited my car perfectly.
Some things have worked a treat, this box turned up from B.G Developments

Inside

I sent them my front uprights so they could machine the exact amount off the caliper mounting face. They also made me a custom bell with slightly different offset to normal as I'm using 310mm x 28mm rotors. I thought this was rather cool!

Fitted

For what its worth, the dreaded drive shafts

Just realised I haven't taken any pictures of the rear set up. Nothing special, 308mm discs and bells with the original 2 pot caliper. Still haven't found a satisfactory handbrake solution.
getting there..

Today it was finished and I drove it a celebratory 25 meters or so to give it a wash.

This of course is not the end.. I now need to change the brake master cylinder. Although they work the pedal feel is awful. The speedo doesn't work and I need a handbrake. I had a go at the tracking myself and although its good the car would benefit from a proper geo.

Thanks
I have always liked the idea of 135r oz racing wheels on an s1, also fancy some of the forged 5 spokes.
Ride height is set at 85mm at the front and 95mm rear with about 90kg ballast in the drivers side (yes I'm heavy but it's all muscle..) and 75-80kg in the passenger side.
Looks even lower with all that in there
