Exige Rough running after sorn for a few years

Post by pendy » Mon Sep 10, 2018 2:08 pm

Good afternoon all , I have problem and wanted advice from all the resident geniuses on here. My Exige ( S2 PP 240... 11,000 miles... ) has been off the road for 2.5 years, shameful I know, but in my defence I did have a really nasty Tibial Plateau Fracture (knee) and spent the first year trying to walk again. Anyway I regularly start it to reverse it out of the garage so I can do some work, but think the years of doing this, starting it for 4 mins at a time may have taken its toll. Today was MOT day for me to start using it again so yesterday I started it and tried to let it warm up , but in honesty it was running a bit rough so I just thought it needed a hard run so with this in mind I had the intention of doing that before the MOT . First thing this morning it was still running rough but the engine warning light came on. I got to the MOT station and learnt it was going to be failed because of the light ( new rules apparently ) . So can someone tell me it its likely to be a fouled plug , maybe a Lamba sensor needed a clean ? or any other ideas ? Will the engine warning light automatically reset if I fix whatever fault is or does it need a computer to reset it ?
I did give it a hard run on the way back from the test centre and its improved from yesterday and seems ok pulling through the revs but keeps stalling on tickover and rough on tickover .

Any ideas anybody ?

How old is the fuel in it?

Re Fuel …. Well from when it was first stored it had a small amount it and over the time Ive topped it up with the odd 5 litres , but Ive just put in 20 litres of 99 octane on top of a less that quarter full tank so I was hoping that with the new fuel mixed in it would be ok . Tomorrow I will pull the plugs out and have a look . Its still not very good after all the running up and down the dual carriageway , but unless I can get the engine warning light off its a MOT fail does anybody know how to do that, or is it a laptop mechanics job to clear the fault ?

OBD reader may give more clues to why the light is on; some errors need physically clearing, where others will self-clear as the ECU updates over time.

I think you're on the right track. Give everything a clean with some carb cleaner or petrol.

It'll be dodgy fuel.

Keep pumping some fresh through and it will be fine.

Torque app on Android is free and will clear codes with an adapter ..
I agree it's most likely fuel related

Mine took a few tanks of fresh fuel to run properly after 3 years in storage.
