Steve E

Has your anorak got a hood?

Hmmm, what is an anorak?

People from warm sunny climes probably never get anoraks… but they are all loonies from too much sun turning their brains into engine oil … steveE gave a perfect explanation above

hi again, hopefully this will be my last post as i prefer driving the exige rather than typing away to people i dont know and probably havent even got an exige - a lotus annual does not make you an entusiast. i would love to arrange a track day (i have tried to book for oulton park on the 12th but it is fully booked - too many armchairs racing apparently!) please if you have any other dates in mind let me know and i will show you if the chassis is compromising the handling - i will even have a cup of bovril waiting for when you finish to talk over the finer points of my repair.

ps if anybody is booked for oulton park but is too busy cleaning their tyre treads with a toothbrush or dont want to get there cars wet let me know - a designer anorak awaits the person who drops out.

EVOSAL

I like what appears to be your honesty, but some of what you say isn’t accurate… I reckon you need to stick around and keep contributing… youll see… its like a virus…

Also, most folks on here are probably itchin to see foto’s of the ali-tub repairs… if youve got these then i’m sure you could lay to rest much of your concerns.

Like SteveE says above much of an elise/exige can be unbolted and replaced outright if its been damaged but the chassis is crucial and this is where you will have to do the convincing… but I reckon you know this by now ??

keep postin’

OOH… Meeeoooowwwww

Dont care what anybody says, My red fold away Kagool is my favourite. Beware I’ll be wearing it at Oulton!

By the way, I hope nobody thought I was calling them dull and boring earlier!
Its just people are always calling me a sad anorak for never shutting up about my beautiful motor.

Anyway, Im off to count some buses!

Oh WOW, there goes the number 23.

This all seems a bit familiar; my Elise Sport 190 was written off a few years ago because of a very small dent in the side rail of the tub.
Standard practice is to replace the tub because there is no approved method of repair, and no guarantee of good chassis integrity if you try. My car was sold for 10,000 to a Porsche breaker who simply replaced the body panels and sold the car on to an American collector who no doubt has no idea about the damage hidden below. It’s very good that EVOSAL is not trying to hide the story of this car, but it would definately put me off buying it.
The chassis is probably still very stiff, and you’d almost certainly not know the difference by driving it BUT you never know how it would hold up in the event of a major shunt. Would this side rail crumple more easily? I don’t know.

Now EVOSAL,

I’m normally a very easygoing guy, but this gets me going, as you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about.
Let me tell you that while you may find some other sites whose members are wannebees, all of the ones here have Exiges.
We also DRIVE them, and meet at the different tracks.
(you can see the thread of the 12th to see the arrangements, for ex.)

Now, you say you prefer driving the Exige. You know what? I don’t believe you.
For all I know you can be a poser (actually, that’s my impression).
And while you may take the car around for a spin every once in a while, or use it as a daily driver, it’s nowhere close to how we drive them. REALLY.

And then “cleaning the tyres with a toothbrush”, are you implying that WE are the posers?
You have some nerve, It’s terribly arrogant from your part to come to the site (I would wish, for some enlightening) only start arguing and implying that it’s YOU who is the enthusiast, not us.

Just FYI, it was US (actually Pesky) who managed to get the Oulton park on the 12th organized.

And that toothbrush fetish of yours, you can keep it to yourself!

Uldis

PS - not that I haven’t said anything about the repair. If you were a real enthusiast, nobody would care! but since you’re a poser…

Just what’s wrong with cleaning tyre treads with a toothbrush - I have a large tyre collection and an even larger toothbrush one!

Anyone other than me noticed that its easier to clean the 48’s than the 39’s

Steve, have you tried Colgate Whitning gel yet?

Its much better at getting those real stubborn stains out of the Soft Yokos

Aarrrrgggghhhh!!!

Mr Sal, you seem to know what you are talking about, and I am looking for some help at Oulton on the 12th, as I have not done much track driving. It is free to passenger, so why don’t you bring your lid and show me the way around - I could do with some tips on correct lines etc.

Cheers

Rox,
Sorry but yes, my anorak has got a hood, It’s a parker, the sort with the fur round the edge hood and the zip that goes all the way to the edge of the hood.

RussT, Dont let your lack of track driving spoil your day. There will be plenty of us there so I’m sure that someone will be able to show you the way round.(If they can be bothered to get out of their armcahir that is)

Who the hell is this guy ???
Norwich Union wrote the car off because it needed a new door, sill and had cracks on the front and rear clams ? - Who are you trying to kid eh?, You said yourself that the small dent wasn’t found until the sill was removed, so do insurance companys now x-ray cars looking for damage ?

Most of the guys here know that my own car was smashed up by a Range Rover and Norwich Union were more than happy to pay the 12,600 repair costs, that included every body part being replaced apart from the drivers door, so sorry i just don’t believe you, for them to write the car off there must have been a lot more damage than that.

Just what’s wrong with cleaning tyre treads with a toothbrush

I lick mine! Thankfully there are less grooves on an A048s so it’s much quicker than A039s!

I prefer the distinct flavour of Toyos myself

Like an orchestra on the palette

I sold my non-crash repaired, 14,000 mile, 190 Exige for 19k a year ago.

Good luck with the sale of your crash repaired Exige for the same amount.

Crikey, someone got a bargain!!!

If you still want to sell at that time (a big if !!), then fair enough, and you will doubtless have loads of support from us (though we’ll still try to persuade you to keep the car)

Don’t I know that!!

Ive just bought a damaged elise as it was the only way i could afford one. After reading this does it mean i cant repair mine?It has also been damaged in the side.

That depends on exactly what the damage is…

Tell us about it, and if you have any photos, that would help

Something has hit it in the side. The plastic is damaged all down the side and the door. The chassis is also damaged where the wheel mounts on.After reading all that will it be safe when repaired.
