OK here is one to throw the cat amongst the pigeons. On my trip back from the ring the other weekend, Porkie and I did a couple of side by side 3rd gear to the top of 6th runs. Both our cars are exactly the same apart from Porkies has the new ProAlloy S2 intercooler. The Pro alloy item is very nice and is bigger than the forge one (I dont think I have seen an MMG one in the flesh)
We had been driving for hours, so both cars were nice and hot and in the half a dozen or so side by side runs we did there was absolutely zero difference between the cars.
The difference would only be felt under the right circumstances and driving on a motorway wouldn’t be it, the engines simply won’t get hot enough.
Leave them sitting at idle for a bit and then drive them, heatsoak 'tastic.
I like the sound of the mmg version, heard it fits better, just dunno what the cost is, but the forge comes with fancy rubber bits.
Not sure if i can wait 5 weeks although its a decent price, Im one of those spur of the moment people, once the moment has past I cant be bothered with it any more !!
It was either a new roof or an ic, i keep seeing a roof on ebay for 450 that looks decent.
Hottest I’ve ever got mine is 42 degrees … I believe the ecu doesn’t pull back the ignition till 50 degrees .
Forge /mmg / proalloy are clearly all good ic,s
You pays your money etc .
Anything is vastly better than std …
For serious boost/track use then probably a chargecooler would be a better choice .
On my car I could feel the timing pulling back on a warm day with plenty of WOT with the standard intercooler , since fitting the MMG stage two I have not felt any .
I have left my car running for 15 minutes untill the IATs get up to 30-35 then gone for a blast and the temps shoots down in the 20s.
At WOT for as far as the road will let me I have not gone above 37, I had my standard cooler in the high 50s .
My advice if you are thinking of buying an intercooler is to find out the specs of the core, most places buy a core in and weld end tanks on , there is a huge difference in cores , how they flow & how efficient they are , bigger isn’t always better as you will lose some throtle response .
